So for christmas i recieved a Marshall MG250DFX, and over these past 3 days have had trouble finding a good sound out of it. I play mostly Metallica and AC/DC. Is there any way I can make this amp sound better?

It wasn't even the post that makes me love you- it's the Mew avatar.

Take it back and get a Valveking, Bugera, Blackheart or something and an OD pedal.

For an MG, it's probably pennies.

If you return it, the 6505 1X12 would be a decent replacement. You shouldn't have any problems with Metallica and decent enough AC/DC tones can be had at low gain settings. The cleans aren't too great but I'd take them any day over an MG.

Careful, my ego gets feisty when it's massaged.

I got the black hoodie covered in Mew angels for Christmas :]

For 500-600$ get a Blackstar HT-5 + a Bad Monkey OD, it will pretty much give you the tones you want.

How loud will an HT-5 be if its only 5 watts compared to 100watts solid state?
#21
I'm not sure about the differences in tube and SS, but I think 5 for a tube is like 30 for SS. There's a thread on it somewhere in here. And more wattage doesn't really mean it's louder, just more powerful, in other words you get more headroom .

the HT-5 can go really loud suprisingly.. i've cranked mine up all the way.. except the fact that in my bedroom i get feedback all the time on extremly high volumes with it even if i'm not playing... on low to midrange volumes it's fine though
