I thought you guys in the GB&C would be best to ask this question to.

What are the essential/basic tools for doing a guitar set up?

for a basic one, some screwdrivers, and hex keys.

a basic setup being the action (might need a screwdriver or hex for your bridge) and the pickups hight, then intonation (should just be a screwdriver, small.) and you might need to adjust your truss rod (hex key) (if your not sure about this, dont do it, read, read, read about it befor you try.)

How about a full set up?
Leveling, crowning, nut filing etc?

Full setup; Screwdrivers, hex keys, nut files, long flat file for fret levelling, crowning files (can use a triangle file for this, but crowning files are better) one sided file for rounding fret ends, sandpaper (about 120-400 grit) and 0000 steel wool for fret finishing.

Thanks,

I'm actually trying to get all the tools together so I can start a little set up bussiness aroud here since everyone charges a bunch.

And yes I will practice alot on my own guitars and these cheapo first act guitars my little brother has before I even touch someone else's guitar.

And hopefully I'll get enough money for a Peavey XXX 212

Thats a good idea to make a bit of cash. I'd do that but there is no-one around here who plays (other than me)

And it's a great way to get familiar with some gear lol
But yeah there's loads of people over here that play but don't know where to get a decent set up, which is why I'm going to start doing set ups.

Try posting in the musicians or musical instrument part of craigslist. That's what I'm going to do.
