Ok so today i went in to my local music store ( Long and Mquades knows what that is)
and after browsing for a while i was greeted by a staff member who asked me if i needed help. I asked if they carried a certain brand of floorboard that i was looking to get for my amp to see if they had in stock. He said that they only order it in by request. I was starring at a pile of three of the floorboards in question right in front of me. It totaly made my day.

Anyways long story short does anyone have any storys of incompetent sales people be it from music stores or anywhere else for the matter. Im sure there must be lots from wally world but i try to avoid that place like the plague.

Maybe three people had requested them and they were waiting to be picked up?

Well, one day I walked into my local store with a 40% off coupon they printed in the newspaper, so they raised the price of the guitar I wanted by $450, in front of my eyes, and tried to sell it to me.

Why did you ask if they had a floorboard when you were staring right at it?

I don't know about incompetent, but I did have a weird experience at a guitar store once.

I was looking around (as I usually do), not seeing anything of interest, and a store clerk asks what I was looking for. I asked if he had any Schecter guitars. He said no, and then proceeded to enquire me about how I know about Schecter anyway. I said I first read about them on the internet. He put his hand on my shoulder and said "Kid, don't trust the internet, trust us guys in the industry".

The next 30 minutes were spent with him lecturing me about how Schecter are elite-level studio guitars hand-made in the US, drifting off to talking about how Paul McCartney had some very rare basses made for him by some company that began with Z and only made 5 basses a year, exclusively for Paul to use in the studio.

I found plenty of Schecters in another store a month later.

i walked into a long and mcquade to ask for a whammy bar, the guy told me i needed to bring in my guitar so i could get it custom fit, i went in later that night without my guitar and asked a different guy the same question he asked what kind of guitar i had then went to a drawer with literaly hundreds of whammy bars in it and gave me one
It's always the last day of summer and I've been left out in the cold with no door to get back in

I was at GC looking for a new bass amp and I told the guy my budget was about $400 so he continues to offer me stacks that are worth well over $1500. Salespeople get annoying.

For me it's the other way round. I have 1500 to spend, they offer me a Spider III (although that's often the only amp they have. Most music stores are small here)

Working in customer services myself I mainly find that it is the customer that is wrong.

I've had customers complain to me that the cheese is 'too cheap and is probably the wrong one in the packet' and that we 'do not sell the normal pepper'. Also, a drunk guy came right up to me looked right at me as he walked by me and said in a creepy voice, 'sell irn bru'.

Customers are odd.

In speed versus emotional playing, i think of an M16 versus an M24. You can have 650 rounds per minute, or one round, one kill. Both should be in your arsenal.

I know what you mean. All my music store sells is MGs
I'll pretend I can mod your amp but break it instead.

You.. spelled wrong, wrong? (for ironic purposes?...)

And I did that on purpose, it was from an older thread.

My parents always asked me if I wanted to check out Long and Mcquade (which he also spelled wrong.. ackward!) but I've heard some pretty bad stories about the service there.

Well, to be fair, before Schecter were made in Korea they were all made in the US. I dont know if they were hand made, but old US Schecters are pretty rare.

Reading that made my day.

It might just be because of the the place I work, but I work at a 63 pump petrol station & customers seem to think that if their pump is running slow, then we must be low on that particular fuel. The fact that we have 11 different tanks that can hold tens of thousands of litres of fuel makes me lol when they mention that. Not even to mention that the filter might need cleaning / changing on said pump.

I'm aware of that, but this was in 2008. Schecters were being made in Korea for at least 11 years. I like to think a music store employee would have known that. But then, I am retarded, by most accounts.

The store had, like, every single Gibson and Epiphone currently in production, including a few custom shop and limited editions, but literally nothing else.

I also work at a petrol station, some guy pulled up to a pump and ran out of petrol. It would have been lucky, but he pulled up to the pay-at-pump which only takes cash so he had to get one of my collegues to help him and his drunk and/or high friend to push the car to the next pump. The car then broke down. Him and his drunk/high friend were sat there for at least two hours (I left before they did) with a rope. We had to yell at them several times for smoking near the pumps. Silly customers.

Everybody that works at GAME. I asked one of the staff if they had "Fable: The Lost Chapters" for PC, and they took me over and started showing me Fable II for the Xbox 360.

I actually had an interview with them two months ago, a group one with about 15 people, and we got to dicussing games. The guy that ran the GAME store said "actually, I'm not much of a gamer... I only really play the occasional game of Call of Duty for a few minutes here and there". People in that room started looking at me crazy when I started discussing games as a main hobby.

Gamestation folks tend to be more clued in, though (but then again, I did fail at getting a job there twice too).

I love going into local guitar shops looking for a certain brand of guitar but they only have 2-3 brands because they get "deals" which don't affect me in anyway because prices are still stupid..

btw most common guitar brands in shops around here are Ibanez, Godin, Fender... kind of annoying

I probably would have stopped him right there, us guys in the industry? i think a janitor at a recording studio is more "in the industry" than some dumbass who is on his high horse just because he works in a guitar store.

I was out looking for keyboards and me and my sister walked into this legit-looking-from-the-outside-atleast store. I asked if they had the M-audio 69 key which I planned to buy. I asked the guy behind the register "hey, I'm looking for keyboards" (it was a guitarshop by the looks, but the usually have other stuff) and he sarcastically replies "Good thing thing we sell them..." then falls silent. I picked up the conversation again knowing that he obviously thinks he' too cool to talk to customers. I asked if he had any m-audio keyboards and he says something like "Bah! M-audio... " still in a sarcastic tone. I know it's not the best brand but all I could afford. So I ask "yeah...? something wrong with that?" he turns to his older partner and asks "hey man, what do we think about M-audio?" with some idiotic smile on his face.

His older partner leans forward as to tell me a secret and starts ranting about M-audio being subpar to X-much-more-expensive-item and I tell him I know that, but I'm not interested in spending a fortune on something I'm just starting and am not sure if I want to continue with. He rants on a bit and I see my sister being approached by some weirdo who wants to give her an ice-cream (yeah seriously wtf?). I concluded these morons weren't gonna help me nor get off their high horse so I tell them I'm going to try another store. For some reason they seem offended as if just by entering I'm commiting myself to their store.

I try a store a bit down the road and they're muuuuuuuuuch more proffessional. And they told me that the first store I was at weren't allowed to sell M-audio keyboards
Probably explains why they're such dicks about it.
