Most songs I play with these strings sound way too bright to me, compared to my older strings. Almost twangy. I don't want to throw these $11 away though, so maybe there's a tuning that can make it more mellow?

Seriously? Turn down your treble until the strings wear in and dull out a bit. Tuning to different tunings changes the available notes, not the tone (at least not the way you want to).

EDIT: And you seriously overpaid for that pack. I get mine for $4 a set when I don't buy them in bulk.
