Specifically, state something you learned this past year from a fellow UG'r. I'm mainly looking for things you learned from GGnA, GBnC and EG. Gear related.

Not PIT crap

If you want to say that UG has a bandwagon against MGs that's fine but I don't want this to get into a flamewar. If it does, I'll ask you to stop. This thread is for constructive and educational purposes.

Here's mine:

I learned that if you daisy chain 2 cabs together they are considered to be wired in parallel, not series.

^^First of all, that isn't gear related.

I didn't learn anything, per se, but I have gotten a lot of help with pedal modding and general amp building info.

Great year UG!

It was a great year. You got help modding something so I'm sure you learned something. I'd hate to go a whole year and not learn anything.....with as much time as I spend on here

Also, learning to Sweep Pick from UG is cool. Stuff like that is fine.

That people with bad ears will continue to have bad ears.

That a good amp can sound very not good in the hands of a not so good guitar player.

That a not so good amp can sound amazing in the hands of a good player.

Output transformer swaps are the best thing ever and everyone with a cheap tube amp should do it to theirs.

The whole is more than the sum of its parts.

Cheap gear can be great gear with a bit of tweaking.

Awesome tone can be had from just about anything, when it's in the right hands.

UG hates HT-5 NADs.

I knew that my MG was bad....but it wasn't until I joined these forums that I learned the full extent of its suckiness.

I have to personally thank you guys, I never really tried out tube amps before coming here. If it wasn't for the CONSTANT MG bashing I wouldn't have tried tube amps, and finally seen how drastic the difference was.

If it wasn't for you guys I would probably still be playing my MG...

*sniff*....I love you guys!....*sniff*

Trick question; I'm not falling for it.
Fender Malmsteen Strat > Boss NS2 Noise Suppressor > NS2 Send > NeoClassic 3080 Compressor > NeoClassic 741 Overdrive > NS2 Return > NS2 Output > VHT Special 6 Ultra Amp > Amp Send > MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay > Boss RC3 Loop Station > Amp Return

I learned how to accept so many other styles of music now... By the end of 2008, I was still a big Van Halen, Def Leppard, and Ozzy Osbourne fan, and that was pretty much it... Thanks to UG, I really started to expand my musical pallet.

Thank you UG, for the beautiful music

Everything i know now, but more specifically

The amp accounts for the majority of your tone
An amps popularity and advertising do not mean an amp is good or bad
Tone is subjective, but there are certain tendencies
Solid state is not better than tube, (i still hate my friend for talking me into buying solid state)

I learned how to consider different amps. Combos are as good as stacks. And if an amp is not well know, it doesn't mean its bad. I used to want a big marshall stack. Now I'm looking into a Carvin legacy combo.

How do you tell when an amp has a cathode follower or not?

There seems to be no instruction that goes: Cathode follower: Yes/No

I learnt all about:
1. tube amps
2. valve positions in tube amps
3. how to make mah own instrument cables
4. how not take UG too seriously
5. that the person you're butting heads with right now, may be your commarde in arms the next day
6. how easy it can be to piss the crap off someone on UG
7. how absolutely random threads can just take off and explode
8. how these kind of non-gear related threads can become a really how thing on GG&A for no apparent reason
