First of a series of guitars I'm going to do. Each one will have a tribal theme, some very obviously, others will have only a hint of it. Each one will be completely different, including different shapes. I liked the inlays when i started this, but i have yet to decided If i'm keeping them. This build is kinda old, and it stopped because of the inlay issue. We'll see what happens. Enjoy.

NEW mockup!

Switched to hardtail, but that was planned already, just not drawn.

Mine too. I'm big on the more serious looking guitars. how do the inlays look to you? Not sure if i still want to do them or not.

It needs something better than dots, but I really don't care for those inlays. They look over complicated. I don't know what would look good though, other than stuff that's already beed done. I really like the waving flags that ESP uses.
#6
Looks good so far

12th fret?

And maybe no other inlays... could look good

I might play around with it. I could also do black inlays on this board, but i dont know how that would look. The maternal is far from all black, Could look cool with the right inlay.
We'll see

I've seen some pretty cool tribal inlays that just spanned across the entire fretboard. Sadly I can't find any good ones on google images right now.

I decided to take the 12th fret inlay, turn it, and do it from the 12th-15th frets in that black.

i come back to UG to see this...my day is now awesome

will that 12th-15th be the only inlay now? I just reckon it'd look classier that way
#12
I think the fretboard looks a bit to busy with all the different inlays and that it would look better with only one kind of inlay or just the 12-15 fret inlay.

Yup. That one inlay, in the black. Wanna go with a all black feel. Gonna try to fix the inlay on a peice with some nice figure.

Haha, I see. I'm in love with the viper shape at the moment, so I cannot wait to see where this goes.
#17
This one is gonna be stalled for a bit, waiting on my dremel to get here to do the inlay.
Won't be too long though.

Bobby, I'm glad you're only going to do that one inlay. Otherwise I think the FB would've looked too busy.

'Tis fine, I talked it over with a friend and we decided it would look best. I wish my new dremel would get here already.

New mockup in the first post. Like this one much better. Yes I'm using a hardtail. I have a 0* neck angle, and i dont like recessed TOMs that much.

Ehh, not a fan of the inlay... something about it I just don't like

What if you put the MG-Tribal 2 Going across the fretboard, centered at the 12th fret instead of putting it on the 24th?
Impossible is Nothing
#25
I'll pass.

Dunno if I'm even doing the 24th fret one yet, I'm out of MOP.
Looks better up close though (12-15)

just an idea, would it look better to have the 12th fret inlay going vertically instead of horizonally?

Not really. Plus it makes the parts so small, i just printed out the template for this one, and it's already going to be a pain. I like it, I'm keeping it

I'll make the decision in a bit. The other way isn't out of the question yet.

Cut out a couple blanks, then decided on this one, pictured with the inlay template.

Going to slot the fboard soon, then cut the taper and pre radii it. Cutting out and filing the inlay tomorrow, and might inlay it into the board if time permits.

So what is that material called then? Reconstituted something or other?

Looks classy.

I honestly dont know. I'd guess some kind of plastic, as that's what it cuts like. Not hard enough to be a reconstituted pearl, and i haven't used stone yet to judge.

Ahh cool. I assumed it might be some variety of reconstituted stone or something, but it's just similar to pick guard material then (type of thing).

Thanks for clarifying dude.
