theyre similar in idea, but your not going to get a delay to sound like a good reverb,

i think fender reissued their reverb tank not to long ago if you want to look into that

Well, the sound of reverb is similar to fast echo/delay, but works on different mechanics. You could try using delay / echo to spice up your solo tone, in which case you wouldn't need reverb. If you don't like the amp's reverb and don't want to use a reverb pedal, this is pretty much all you can do.
