I've been thinkin about starting a small indie label lately and one day the thought crossed my mind.Since the CD format is no longer selling because of mp3 and file sharing today why not just cut to the chase? and put the album on flashdrive cards and sell the record in digital format yes I know that you can put music on I tunes and buy digital at almost eny place that sells music on line, but I think the flash drive sticks would give the buyer a since of substance instead of just something you download. Now I know there are many pro and cons the this idea but I would like your imput.

You can't put a flash drive in a CD player. You might as well just download the music.

Plus, you can't autograph album art that is as small as a flash drive.
This is why I don't like arguing on the internet.

Memory sticks are expensive, and not practical as a mass-production thing. They don't quite look as good stacked together on your shelf, either.
#9
Are you talking about like custom flashdrives with like the picture on them??

And IDK I would just by the CD. And if I wanted it on a flashdrive I'd put it on my own.

How would you get a sense of substance from it? It's a tiny flash drive. You'd put the songs on a computer, then be left with a useless flash drive, which even if you could reformat, would have too little storage to be worth it.

The main reason for the decline in CD sales isn't because people can buy them online (though that's not helping), i'd say it's the ability to fairly easily acquire any music you want for free.

Now if artists would make CD's that were actually worth there price, and had more than 1 or 2 good songs, then I would (and do) buy them.

I think it would be cool to get a flash drive with artwork on it. And CDs are dirt cheap, but flash drives are still pretty cheap.

Most musicians would not want their music to be on a mundane flash drive.

TS is wrong...

Is this what we're basically doing in this thread?

We're just pointing out flaws in a half-baked plan.

I don't think it's the plan that's half-baked....

I'd still rather buy music in CD format

If I'm going to buy music digitally, why would I want to go to a store, when I can get it from the internet without the hassle of having to wear pants?

There are people already doing that.

It hasn't really taken off.

This.

I know Ringo did it with one of his albums. It's a wristband and the clasp is a USB:

Creative idea. But the only reason I ever buy CDs is for the artwork & liner notes. And having a hard copy so I can display the cover (I put my favorites into a collage and have it framed). Also, it would be lower quality than a CD.

I don't really see any good reason whatsoever to buy a flash drive with music instead of just dl'ing it.
Please don't confront me with my failures. I had not forgotten them.

It seems that the flash drive idea is in between CDs and downloading digitally.

It shares some attributes with both but with has none of the advantages.
