like if i got a penguin could i keep it in 70+ degree weather and have it live or do they NEED cold weather? and does the same apply for polar bears?
#3
some penguins migrate to florida each year. and MANY penguins are in zoos all year round. no animal needs cold weather, all animals need warmth. some animals are just ADAPTED to cold weather.

A penguin, like any other warm blooded animal can live in almost any condition (within reason).
#7
No. The supraorbital gland must remain at a very low temperature, obviously only attainable naturally in the coldest parts of the Earth.

cool =/= freezing cold.

the reason you need the chiller is because fish are insanely sensitive. I have lost many a fish due to tank temperate fluctuations. fish get stressed very easily, and a temperature that they don't like can stress them out very badly and kill them.

That sounds a bit eccentric if you consider having a penguin or polar bear as a pet...
#19
im pretty sure a penguin or polar bear could freeze to death, but not die of unusual warmth.

Incidentally, that looks delicious. And TS, why would you want to know if a penguin and a polar bear can survive in cold weather? Plan to abscond with some animal friends from the zoo?

yes and so do people. a human being in 40 degree weather can die in 30 minutes from heat stroke.

polar bears just overheat at lower temperatures because they are adapted to cold weather. they don't overheat any easier than people.

Galapago penguins live at the equator.

And I agree with Lt. Shinysides, penguins do not need the cold, they have merely adapted to it.
