In encourage people to try the ones I didn't star, because I've spent loads of time testing out free VST's and it's become a tiresome endeavor.

That depends on what you need tbh. Technically you can use any VSTi for anything... What kind of sound are you looking for? Drums, leads, atmospheres, bass?

Dance leads, like saws, that type of sound.

I tried the one with trance in teh name, the link wouldn't work

Take a look at Crystal. I just got it recently and already have put it to use in Asylum.

This didn't work? Works for me.

Do a little reading on what types of hardware synths are used in tracks you like. Many VSTi's are meant to emulate hardware synth presets and what not.

Also, some of the links might not work, I ran into that as well. I haven't tried all of them, but a good amount of them I have. There are also some I use that weren't in the list I found at the IDM boards.

EDIT: I see some of my pasta has dots in it. If anyone wants to download some of the broken links, they can be found in full here.

Damn, I downloaded a LOT of VSTs here. Never really used VSTs properly as I wasn't (and still really am not) that familiar with using my DAW as a sequencer and whatnot. Guess I've a lot to learn, but thesse should give me something to work with for now. Cheers, crunk!

We're going in the news section tomorrow, I think.

To those who try out these vst's, many come with manuals, but if you want a specific explanation of one that isn't very clear we should be able to help you out.

Thanks for the VST's Divid3d and Captaincrunk! Very good

I'll post some more later, once we get feedback on these. There's so many out there...

EDIT: How many people want .au's? I don't have anything that uses them but I could ask the users who do to test some out for us.

Hey everyone I got a psy trance track that i could use come feedback on. Its right at the top "A Seperate Being"

Wow, that was intense. Careful about labeling yourself, though, as I don't agree with the "trance" part of "psytrance." Not a bad thing, just a thing.

I liked it overall, but the end was so abrupt... Dislike that bit.

Superwave is prabably worth checking out, it's got like 8 oscillators or 8 waves or something and you can detune them to ****, so good for trancey saws and stuff. It's on that massive list!

Also, are remixes cool for the albums? I whacked a beastie boys one in that drop box.

We're looking to do remix albums too. Both remixes of UG songs and stuff like what your talking about

And the superwave p8 is one of my favorite synths, free or not free. Like a lot of the best VST's it's modeling a hardware synth, the Roland JP8000/8080.

Read the edited OP. Have you submitted? There's at least three tracks waiting to be reviewed right now, but I dunno when that process will actually start again.

Just read it now, most excellent! Gonna be finishing up a few tracks, I think I have about 5 or so that have been sitting around.

Was working on one today that I'd left to stagnate, it's actually coming out really nicely All them people hatin' on electronic music don't know what they're missing.

Oh yes, and that previous convo I had about some singers, I have a track that could maybe use some sultry vocals, ah man I love female vocals. More on that when I get the songs closer to done.

Thank you very much, captaincrunk, loving that site!

Going to try get a rough version of a song up on my profile tonight, don't hold any thumbs though, I'm being very lazy and doing it so slowly, haha.

And getting these new VSTs and fiddling with them isn't gonna help...

Trying to upload a new track to my profile, but my internet is being so damn slow! (Yesssss it's working now)
Slimer!

There you go, guys. I think I realised what's missing! I forgot to turn one of the main lead pads on, hahahahahahaha! Anyway, I'll mess with it again tomorrow.

Ugh, well it'll be up at some point tonight at least. I have listened to it a few times, I dunno, I just feel something is missing. I need to work on making it more progressive and flow better, or something like that, I can't pinpoint what I don't like about it.

The synths sound like heaven though I'm sure you bunch can tell me what's wrong with it

Yeah SteveHouse, they're a bunch of fools! Fools I tells ya!

I really want to get more involved with this. I've started working on some new material and I can't wait to upload it to you guys. This is the kind of eye opening movement that UG needs.

Sup,

anyone can "sing" on my track (a cover of Der Kommissar)? I'm looking for someone who can rap it to the beat, preferably in German, but I can go with the English version of the song too.

also, anyone uses hardware synths, or am I the only one?

i would love to use hardware synths if i had the money/means. i prefer hardware synths in almost everyway, but i lack the funds.

well, you can always go with used synths, I got 2 vintage FM synths for about $150, the monolithic DX7 and the rackmount TX81z, and for those who think software FM is better than hardware FM, you ain't heard nothing yet, or you go for kits, I'm currently building an heavily modded PAiA FatMan synth, very cheap for *real* analog.

I did see a used Korg D9 I think it was, R1400, which is about 100 dolla or so, not too bad.

Great work on getting a front page article guys, it's kicked up some nice controversy in those absent-minded fools who've never branched into the electronic side of music. Great to see the majority defending it and praising the work that went into this too.
I'm gonna have to look into those VSTi's you guys posted too. I want to make "real" electro rather than just heavily effected guitar sounds.
#160
Using Reason 4.0 (freaking amazing BTW)

Uploaded a song into my profile, waiting until I can record some vocals, could be described as "dance". Most willing to contribute something to the next electro record.
