I am soon going to be swapping my active EMG's for passives and I have been looking at alot of pickups. What I want to know what is the BEST cheap pickups out there? By best I mean sound wise. By cheap I mean less than $50 each.

So far I have seen:
Dragonfire
Guitar Fetish (GFS)
Guitarhead
Rockfield

Are there anymore makers?

For humbuckers I'm going for a David Gilmour meets EVH meets Adam Dutkiewicz
I play alot of classic/hard rock/80's metal as well as modern metal
-What would you recommend?

For single coils I'm just looking for that vintage strat sound
Only looking for cheap pickups just to upgrade my squire strat
-What would you recommend?

NOTE: For humbuckers I will accept Duncan/Dimarzio/Boutique/Etc... suggestions. I would just like to know about their cheaper alternatives

What about the ones that came with your guitar before you butchered it to fit the EMGs? On a serious note, you can't falter with Dimarzios or Seymore Duncans. They'll even tell you what sort of music they're built for, to a point, but don't be afraid to experiment... Also have a look at used pups. You'll find some on a few ebay sites that specialise in guitar and bass parts. They're often stock fender or gibson pups but there's flip all wrong with many of them. I got a basically brand new '07 fender tele neck pup replacement (my old one burnt out) for under $20.
Gear:

Is what some junkies refer to heroin as. For me it's just loads of wires and good sturdy housing, but just as addictive.

I've heard good things about Guitar Fetish. I was tempted to switch out my single coils with some of theirs but I donno which ones are the best *shrugs*

I really like Guitarfetish. That's probably your best bet right there.

-Marshall JCM2000 DSL 401
-Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

I'm talking two guitars here.

My EC-1000 came with EMG's and I'm looking to switch to passives.

I also have a fender squire strat that I want to change electronics/pickups on for fun (hence the cheap pickups)

But I also want them to sound good. So far GFS has the best reviews. I also dont know which is their best.

Rockfield?

I forgot about these. I've also looked into these.

I like the Mafia and Fat Ass but don't know how good they actually are.

I have also seen those. Anyone know anything about any of these brands? And perhaps how they compare to the more famous brands (Duncan, Dimarzio, Etc..)

GFS is decent, but Rockfield is better and Tonerider is best imo out of the budget pups.

I think the Rockfield's may be a little to hot for when I play classic rock/blues. Also what Tonerider pups would u recommend for the style I listed.

Surprisingly, they sound good for the price. First time I bought a retrotron hot nashville humbucker for the bridge. I put it in the mahogany LP copy and it came out good. A few months ago I bought a set of lil puncher modern vintage and put 'em in my epi tele. That came out good.

Carvin sells pups and they're really good. I have two carvins and one has the C22s and the other had the M22s (now blackouts). Two different beasts.

Carvin has a range of humbuckers that sound very good and sell for less than US$50.00. I stuck a set of their M22SD pickups in a Schecter C-1 Exotic. Sounds pretty cool.

Any pup will be too hot for when you play softer stuff if you want to primarily play metal or similar.

I recommend the Rocksongs. They are versatile and will be great for rock in general.

Those are based in the UK right? Is it possible to get them in US?

shoot them an email and see if they have a distributor State side. Otherwise I'm certain that shipping isn't that expensive.

Yea I'll find out. So far for the neck I'm liking the Rolling Mill or the Blues Engine. For bridge a Rolling Mill or any of the high output's. But moreso the Hot Slag cause it comes in a gold cover.

Still open to suggestions on brands as well as pickup models

Lol way to be a smart a**. Just kidding. Thanks for the list although some of those are not necessarily budget i.e Bareknuckle, wolfetone, wcr, etc.... I'm sure there's more but those are just a few I seen at first glance.

I'll go through them all and see what they have to offer. Thanks again. Instead of just suggesting a few here and there you give me the whole list. Wish most people put that much effort into their help.

I will, but that might be a week or two. There are sound clips up on the website, and people who have them love them. PM -mintsauce- and ask him, but don't tell him I sent you - I've accidentally pissed him off a few too many times, and I don't need another excuse for people here to be mad at me.

You're welcome.

I've maintained that pickup list for a long time now... and I throw it out every now and again when people ask for brands of pickups.

IIRC Rio Grande pickups are worth looking at. I've basically assembled the names of some of the smaller / boutique / hand winding pick up makers.

Nothing against any of these pickups, but are they all coming from the same factory? I was under the impression that Epiphone, GFS, Wilkinson, and many others were allragingkitty made by Artec. For my $40, I'm always looking at used Duncans. For cheaper, I might look at used Carvins.
