Hello, I don't know what this is called but is there some kind of software that will play a set of chord progressions on a loop so I can improv over please?

You can use guitar pro. Just lay down the chords u want then play them on repeat. should do the job.

jamcenter.com does something like that. but i don't think you can change the chords. just choose different styles.

Second Band-in-a-box. It does exactly that. You pick a style, and enter a chord progression like G-D-A and let er rip. It works with midi instruments or you can buy it with the real band which contains real sampled instruments instead.
