I'm not sure if I should post this on the Electric Guitar session or here, so I'll just post here and hope I'm in the right place.

What happens is that I've been playing Acoustic guitar now for about 2 months and, although I like it a lot, what I really want to play is an electric guitar simply because it plays metal much better.

Many people have told me to start off on an electric instead of acoustic because later on I'll have to practice all over to get the hang of electric guitar, so since I'm still a beginner at it, I would like to switch over to the electric side of the fence.

Since I'm only 2 months into guitars, I guess it makes sense for me not to know anything about buying them. My friend bought this really cheap guitar that comes with an amp but it sounds terrible. Every note he hits sounds like he's killing a bird.

I would like to know what would be a nice guitar and amp combination that I could buy to play Metal songs. I don't have a lot of money, so it would have to be on a 300~500 dollar budget, but the cheaper the better for now.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks.

$500? Find a used or starter Ibanez guitar and spend the rest on a Peavey Vypyr amp.

I looked it up but there are lots of both the guitar and the AMP and I have no idea which one would be a good pick.

Is $500 enough for some beginner stuff?

If I were you I'd buy

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-Vypyr-30-30W-1x12-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=482909

And

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-GRX20-Electric-Guitar?sku=519417

Obviously there are thousands of options for both amps and guitars, but that's probably what I'd do with $500.

Thanks for the tip. I'll see if I can get a better deal off of ebay or craigslist on one of those.

if you are going for your first electric DO NOT, i repeat, do not get one with double locking tremolo, way to much trouble that it's worth, especially for someone who is just starting out
I'd say for an amp, look at either the peavey vypyr or the vox vt series (stay away from the marhshall mg and the line 6 spiders, they both suck, 99% of ug will agree there aha)
and for a guitar. like I said not a double locking tremolo, prehaps an epi lp or sg?
best thing would be to go to a shop and try out the guitars in your budgets, and the amps suggested
good luck in finding your first electric guitar

Crickets have too much high end for my tastes. I prefer a nice beetle, lots of warm low end.

tl;dr put a beetle in your amp for superior toanz.

Guitars: Schecter C-1 Classic
Westfeild LP e4500
Amp: Vox AD15VT

I'd recommend http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Roland-Cube-30X-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=487032 for your amp

and

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Omen-6-Electric-Guitar?sku=518181 for your guitar

right i know thats a little over 500 but its only $60 over and personnally i think that guitar would do metal better than the ibanez previously recommended n also probably last you a bit longer too.

The first amp and guitar i got that i was happy with was my Cube and my Schecter. My Schecter is my cheapest guitar, got it 3 years ago and its the 1 i play most often i love it. And i think the Cube handles metal a little better than the Vypyr too, just my opinion though.
There's no point fearing death, as it is inevitably going to happen

ESP Ltd H-302
Jackson KE3 (for sale)
Schecter Blackhawk
Roland Cube 60

Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.

It's OK. I just said 500 as a guide line, I can stretch the budget a little bit.

The fact that I know nothing about buying electric guitar puts me on a weird situation where I can't decide to go with either an ibanez or a Schecter and with a Peavey Vypyr 30 or Roland Cube.

You sound like you play metal yourself so I'm inclined into buying what you said.

I'll just wait for a few more replies and see what they say.

Thanks!
