please help me. my laptop has contracted a virus in the form of a Antivirus/antispyware program. It is called Internet Security 2010 and is really messing with my stuff (it removed and block accessibility to my backgrounds and more importantly it is seriously slowing down my connection). The McAfee scan i ran on the computer doesn't find anything.

I believe I may have contracted it through the bar that appears below the tabs bar (I use internet explorer) that says something like "run activeX controls or whatever" but it was on a site I was really familar with.

a box keeps appearing that says:
"Attention! System detected a potential hazard (TrojanSPM/LX) on your computer that may infect executable files. You* private information and PC safety is at risk. To get rid of unwanted spyware and keep you computer safe you need to update your current security software. Click OK to download official intrusion detection system (IDS software)"

*it actually says "You" instead of "Your".

Please help me conquer this. Pretty please. Iz bacon cook33z 4 U!

If you have your OS install disk, you could copy your files to an external hard drive or CD and do a complete reinstall.

Take a voyage to the underworld, speak with Tieresias, only then will you be able to conquer this.

This.

I would recommend doing it sooner than later.

Do a complete format of the HDD and fresh install of the OS or that bug could hang around for a while.

There's probably a folder in your C drive called "system 32". That causes those problems. If you delete the system 32 folder, you should be fine.

Don't do this. It will f*ck up your computer massively

well don't delete system 32 for sure. get rid of mcafee and switch to avast. mcafee is a sorry excuse for an antivirus program. avast is free and run a full scan after you install it.

Okay it seems to be working. It messed up really bad and my computer restarted automatically. I tried restarting it in safe mode and it started. The program that Joshua122593 recommended caught it and stopped it before it could load.

thank you everyone.

Next time just google the name of the trojan and there should be plenty of results that give you step-by-step instructions on how to fix it. You don't need to reformat your entire hard drive. You might as well try system restore first, but it usually doesn't work.
