Needless to say, with me having Cystic Fibrosis(wiki it) bringing up blood(hemoptysis) can be especially health-hazardous. Thankfully, after calling up my doctor, we were able to deduce that it was simply a bad sinus infection that caused me to cough up lots of blood, and eventually my nose bleeding.

I'm now bringing up small plugs again, once again draining from my head down into my chest.

Point being, it scared me big time.

Any of you people have any health scares? Coughing up blood? Passing blood in excretions? I know someone will make the 'I cum blood' joke, but seriously, what's the biggest scare you've had medically?

I had a kidney infection when I was five. I was pissing blood for a week. That was interesting.

...and by interesting I mean painful.

I came blood once. Then I vomited from seeing it. I went temporarily deaf 5 minutes later.

Seriously though; I once got an infection from a burn I have on my arm. Other than that nothing though.

I always get freaked out when I accidentally ingest peanuts. I'm allergic and no matter what happens, it ends in vomiting very violently, a few times. Even if it's only just a little, it ends in mass vomiting that one time, scared a group of little Japanese toddlers that were having a walk at night with their parents. I can still hear the foreign yells of grown men screaming, "WUN! WUN!".

Augh, bad times.

Wow, sucks about CF, it's a big deal here at UNC and a lot of research is done here about it.

I've passed some blood in excretions before, freaked out about it and saw the doctor, told me it was pretty much nothing and is not really uncommon, and it went away in a week. But shortly after I was having horrible problems digesting food, I just couldn't keep it down for more than an hour, I'd eat and then I'd feel nauseated shortly after and literally did nothing but eat yogurt for two days because I'd end up throwing anything else up. And I was literally absolutely convinced that I had gastic cancer or colon cancer (despite the unlikeliness). Turned out it was just a stomach bug, went away in about two weeks. I'm a notorious hypochondriac and during high stress times, my neurosis about being sick actually leads to me being feeling physical symptoms, but that time I actually had something.

The worst example of my neurosis though... my 21st birthday, got completely shitfaced, hammered, I remember taking shots, hitting on a cute girl and then... yeah nothing, next morning, woke up in the bathroom of my friend's apartment. My roommate's ex-gf calls me up to invite me to breakfast as I'm trying to get up off the floor I have this huge shooting pain down my leg and think nothing of it. I go eat breakfast at this fancy ass breakfast place (lamb and mimosa for Sunday brunch imagine that...) and head back to my apartment to shower, and just want to take some aspirin and go to sleep for the rest of the day, I get into the shower and literally from the top of my thigh to just above my knee on my right leg is completely black and purple. I was just like... HOLY SHIT, what the hell, I didn't remember anything from the night before that could've caused this and literally thought I had either a bleeding disorder (VWF disease) or leukemia. So, I schedule an urgent doctor's appt and go see the doctor for this, she looks at it and asks me about it and when I told her that I was drunk and can't remember what happened she practically sends me out the door but I literally pleaded for her to run a blood count.

She did and I was fine.

And to add... over the past two years my eyesight has been getting worse, and I've been wearing glasses while I drive for the past few months. And also my grades have been slipping slightly and I haven't felt as smart, and instead of going to the obvious... 1) I often use the computer late at night in a dark room doing school work/browsing the internet/watching porn which causes eye strain and 2) I've become a lazy shit and cannot be bothered to study more than 2 nights max in advance for any exam, my logic became that the gastric or colon cancer had metastasized to my brain and was causing my vision to go bad and making me stupid.

Nope, and the most second-hand I'm exposed to is well....none really.

I just have a bad sinus infection that's draing and what-not. They told me at dr. office to keep close watch on it for a day or two, and if it persists to call them, in which case they'll admit me to hospital for treatment. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Al112987, yeah, one of my doctors has actually been up there doing research. I'm treated by the people out of UAB.

We have signs about cystic fibrosis on bus stops here.

When I was almost 1, I got 3rd degree burns on my left foot. 16 years later and there's still a bit of scarring. Latest thing was probably H1N1 2-3 months ago which my body fought off quite easily.

I can also slow my heart consciously which scares the shit out of me when I do it. It feels like my whole body is getting lighter and my fingertips and toes might start to tingle. I can only do it for like 2 seconds and after that I feel weird for a few minutes.
#20
Thanks, Wesseem. With the research and advances, that have been made in the past 19 years of my life, the life expectancy has nearly doubled. What amazes me, is that I've managed to live this long on the set of lungs I was born with. I just feel bad for the ones that have different gene mutations that are never at home. They live in the hospital.

EDIT: Avedas, From what I hear, Canadian CF patients tend to be healthiest with that cold, dry air up there. Me, living in hot, humid, Alabama, tend to be sick anytime the temperature exceeds 65 or 70 degrees F.

Engel, supposing your post was aimed at me, I would truly be a medical mystery if I, being a fully equipped(thought I'm not sure I'm functional, look up congenital abscence of the vas deferens, never bothered seeing if I have that CF-related problem) male, were preganant.

Man, I know what you're talking about here...

Last night I was lying in bed, but I was just staring at the ceiling and had no intention of sleeping really, but I started focusing on my breathing and heartbeat, and all of a sudden I felt my heart beat really slow, and I was breathing in and out like once per 15 seconds...

It felt like I was sleeping but still conscious, it was a scary experience though...

I got hit by a car once which was brutal. I was pretty disfigured for a while which was also pretty brutal. Had all these stitches and casts and bandages and shit holding me together lol.

Once I vomited blood. I mixed the wrong stuff the night before, and despite not being that drunk I threw up all night till I fell asleep, then woke up and continued throwing up. A blood vessel in my eye burst as a result, and my nose started bleeding, meaning blood dripped down my throat (I was lying down the whole time) and the next time I threw up there was blood in it! Brutal as.

Got third degree burns on my foot once. The skin came off and there was this massive blister that covered my whole foot. I have this patchy scar there now which has about 3 different skin shades scattered in patches across it haha.

Well this didn't happen to me, but years ago my mother (who had health problems for years and years) was admitted to hospital with a really high fever.
She had a temperature of 44 degrees celsius (that's 111.17 F), which is pretty freaking high.
Especially when you consider that the human brain starts dying at 41.11 Celsisus (105.9 F)
Fortunately she made a recovery from that, but doctors were absolutely amazed at her temperature though.

Hmm, I guess having pneumonia and coughing so hard that I threw up counts as bad. Couldnt hold down food for like 5/6 days, never been as weak in my entire life. Oh, and coughing up blood was pretty scary too. Turned out I had coughed so much and hard that I my throat started bleeding.

When i was 16 i had unctrolled hypertension, and the doctors couldn't figure it out. Long story short, I spent 3 months in hospital because all of my vital organs started to fail from the increased pressure.

the first time i dislocated my shoulder i didn't know wtf happened, i just know it was the most intense pain i've ever felt before and i couldn't move until it popped back in, i was pretty nervous at first. (i guess it was a partial dislocation because i heard full dislocations don't hurt as much as it just sitting on top of the socket)

Occasionally I get severe back pains, and usually its different every time. Sometimes, I'm aware I've trapped a nerve because I get pains shooting down parts of my body. Once I got sharp pains in my legs, and fell over completely. Other times its my genital area, which needless to say, really hurts. I contacted my doctor about it, and his simple answer was told me to lose weight.

Another common one to me is that I need glasses, and wear them all the time at home, but I dislike wearing them at school as people have grown used to me without them and I cant be bothered starting with a few months to go, but sometimes my eyes get painful after focusing on something. I'm short sighted, so I cant see the board when I'm 15ft away from this. It means I have to squint to see the board, and I cant afford contact lenses really. Yes, I know I'm stupid for not wearing my glasses at school, but meh.

Yah I coughed up blood about 4 years ago. A lot of it. I was then terribly sick for a full MONTH. It was wild.

It was also right before I was going to England for a rugby tourney, and the week before I went and got anti biotics, which fixed it.

Worst sickness of my life.

If it gets worse just got see a doctor n get anti biotics, not worth waiting around like I did.
