I'm trying to decide on my first tube amp!
It will be used mostly for bedroom practice!

I play stuff like; Deep Purple, Queens of the stone age, Wolfmother and Coheed and cambria!
The heaviest stuff I play is faith no more!

My budget is around £250/$400

I'm wondering what you would reccomend?

Thanks

blackstar ht5. You might try and find one that's still 400 for the combo. They raised the price right after I bought mine.

I tried out a Vox Night Train yesterday and I loved it,

Would it be too loud for bedroom practice on the 7.5W setting?
#9
7.5W tube? that's pretty loud. Certainly I can piss of the whole family with my Vox AC4TV on 1/4W at full volume. I would guess it's all down to how deaf your family and neighbors are.

Bear in mind that cranked ANYTHING is too loud for bedroom really, when talking about volume, simply consider how far it has to be turned up in order to sound anywhere near it's best. eg: A 120 watt metal amp is often ok at low levels since it's all premap gain, but an 18 watt non MV marshall would NOT :P I'd say for those bands, if your not going to be gigging, lower wattage amps, or an attenuator would have to be your best bet, and considering your budget, Raijoita's suggestions seem spot on.

I can recommend the Orange AD5. It's got a proper vintage Overdrive that's wonderfull harmonic.

Is that the only amp you're ever going to suggest? Do you work for JCA?

No small tube amp is really suited for metal, and the genres you play. So I'd suggest the HT-5 + an OD/Distortion pedal.
Wait.

I thought the TS didn't play metal, anyway i second the HT-5 idea or the new Laney cub (i'd go for the cub 10).
Current Rig:

Eppy SG w/Swineheads, Marshall DSL 5c, Joyo Vintage OD, Joyo British Sound, Sounds Sounds Fuzz Face, GGG Guv'nor, Dr. Boogie Pedal, Crybaby in Red Sparkle, Digitech Hardwire Delay

The things I would do for a Les Paul...

If it has enough gain, Vox AC4

Get an od and you'll be splendid unless you gig or jam with a drummer, then you will need a louder amp.

EDIT: Nah, but I do have a secret agenda.

As for TS, the Vox AC4 also has my vote, and I tried the HT-5, it's pretty good too.

I just like the JCA a lot
