You have Pokémon Gold, there is no such thing as Missingno in Gold. The name of that glitch is simply ?????.

Ummm there is a reason for Missingno. Something to do with how the developers were going to make Marowak evolve into Kangaskhan, then at the last minute they changed it, and hid the code. The hidden code turned into Missingno. I'll look for it.

Edit: Ehhh...that was 4chan's explanation, anyway. I like this one a bit better.

I think would've made the game tons better. Kangaskhan is a bitch to catch.

It is in the pokedex as 00 under bulbasaur and in blue version it didn't turn into anything also it had watergun in 2 diffrent move slots

I Say .... pokeglitch

That actually would've been good. A cute Cubone should replace that ugly ass meatbag sitting in Kangaskhan's pouch.

As someone said it was suppose to the next evolutionary step from marowak if you look at Kangaskhan's baby it looks like a skulless cubone.

Not quite. It happens when the game calls for a random encounter, but there is no encounter data for that particular area. The reason it happened while surfing on a wall is because Game Freak mistakenly programmed it for random encounters like regular water, but forgot to program what sorts of pokemon could appear there. Because the game has no idea what to call, it brings up missingo, which literally means "Missing Number".

Also, the missingo glitch could cause species of pokemon typically over level 100 to appear. If you do the Old Man Weedle demonstration, the game stores your name to a location on the RAM of the cartridge due to the lack of saving on more permanent media. When the game makes a random encounter call but fails to find any encounter data, it sometimes takes the stored name variable and converts it into a pokemon. There are people who know how to manipulate this to get any pokemon bar Mew because Mew's hex number (21) is not attainable via regular letters and symbols.

This also meant you could get into fights with glitched Professor Oaks and wild team rocket members, fossils, the lavender town ghost, and all sorts of things. You just needed the correct name.

Indeed. See the link I posted right above. No doubt I posted it during the time it took you to write this short essay.

Anyway, just for the hell of it, here's this.

It's a glitch. Because of the base 15 method of coding games, there are 255 possible slots for pokemon in pokemon red/blue. Because of this, the other 104 spots become glitches. Because of the nature of the game, their sprites and moves may get mixed up, and many learn moves like "cooltrainer" or "TM05".
