I don't like them much, but the bass player from Nirvana could really pull off being lanky.

That would be Krist Novoselic if I remember correctly

Jonny Greenwood? I don't know whether you'd consider him lanky.

Omar from TMV.

He's thin but he's not tall. So he's not really lanky per se. I've seen them live; I know.

Paul Gilbert is tall and lanky and he has amazing stage presence.

Yep!

Steve Vai has more stage presence than most top 40 bands.

Lanky people are, by definition, tall.

Now you're just getting technical.

I would call him lanky just because of the way he throws his skinny appendages around stage when he performs.

my band has quite a few lanky ones (myself included).
i'm 6'1 and our singer/guitarist is 6'4
our bassist is 5'11
and then drummer and our female singer are just short (in comparison)
but we command the stage

got any videos of you playing live?

I'm really lanky... but I need to work on my stage presence

Might need a wireless set up lol
P.S. this is what the alphabet would look like without the letters Q and R

Joey Ramone was lanky, but he was a singer

I seem to remember Josh Homme being a pretty tall guy. Can't remember though.

Yeah but Josh Homme is built like a tank, he ain't exactly lanky

Matt Bellamy is really thin (especially in the older days of muse), although he isn't very tall (i would guess less than 5'10"), he has an amazing stage presence though. Serj Tankian also seems kind of lanky as well, but he seems fun live.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Josh Homme is really tall, but like someone said, he is like a brick shithouse, although in the Kyuss days and early QOTSA period he wasn't as built.
WHOMP

Think of that next time you are not allowed to laugh.

Lanky as in a big awkward streak of piss?
Am I bassist that plays guitar, or a guitarist that plays bass? A guitar in a bass amp, a bass in a guitar amp?

most of these folk are average build.... and some people are also just naming their favourite guitarists

id say scott weiland or robert plant, both rather lanky characters IMO.

plant actually looked pretty built once 73 rolled around. He wasn't really lanky, just in really good shape.

Buckethead.

Awesome guitar player though he is, he has no stage presence to speak of apart from that bucket on his head.
#35
Matt Thiessen from Relient K is probably about 6' 4". He's got some pretty awesome stage presence, but that's easier to do when you're also a lead singer.

buckethead is good but he doesn't particularly have much precence.

Someone who does a nunchuck dance to techno music live whilst wearing a mask and a KFC bucket on his head cannot have no stage presence. It's impossible.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to put it, along with your other advice, into a book, the pages of which I will then use to wipe my ass.

He's a freak of nature, but we love him so.
