I have heard that HZs are worthless and don't deliver the punch you would expect from an EMG let alone decent distortion, in addition to that, their clean is disgusting and is muddy?

So is this right, if so how come they are featured in a number of decent guitars including some signature models?

Too many people getting caught up thinking EMG HZ should perform like their EMG active brothers but they don't. Anyway most of the guitars I've seen that use the HZ are fairly mid range and any of the other similar priced guitars also use their own brand generic pickups, as for signature models well off the top of my head I think Alexi used to have them on his ESP's because he liked them and well it must of been requested by him.

^^ alexi also has the gain booster in his guitars, it gives the HZ a good boost
i don't think their as bad as their mad out to be, i had one for a long time, it served its purpose. there are better pickups out there though. i swaped it for a DImarzio D-Sonic
