What amp do you have, and why do you think you need a distortion as oppose to an overdrive for those bands?

you can get an overdrive amp or pedal and obviously a pedal would be cheaper. i like danelectro pedals. there are some danelectro that have the same sound but are a lot less expensive because they are made of plastic and not metal.

Okay, I think it would be good for you to get a decent overdrive pedal, it'll be all you need to get the tones you are after. Will you go used? If you can then look for Tubescreamers, and clones of them. (Maxon, etc.)
Wait.

Well if you're looking for an overdrive you could go with a TS9 or one of it's many clones. They're pretty versatile. If you're looking for a distortion pedal, I'd save your cash for a bit and get a keely modded DS-1.
