Blues & jazz, electronic, and now, metal.

Why not some post-rock?

So, is anybody interested in contributing to a UG post-rock album?

Post-metal is welcome too. =]

Basically, anything that incorporates the "post-rock sound". Music like that of Envy and Efterklang will be accepted too, if you're wondering how far the spectrum can go for this album.

The FAQ That Evolves

Q: Will I be submitting the song directly to you?

A: Yes. Just upload it to a file-hosting site like Mediafire and send me a PM with its link. As of now, I'm the only judge, but I'll most probably try and get mental_zer0 to help me with the judging as well, if I see that we have a lot of submissions.

Q: Deadlines?

A: No deadline yet. Feel free to write/record/experiment/fap.

Q: How polished should the song be? Should it have high production values?

A: This is up to you. If you feel that your song sounds better with a lo-fi production, go for it. If you want it to be polished, then by all means, make it shine. It completely depends on what kinda sound you're looking for. But, do try your best to make it sound like it would belong on an album, and not a home demo. =]

Q: What file format should I use?

A: MP3 at a bit rate of 320 kbps, please. I use EAC with LAME 3.98.2 for all my converting purposes, but as long as your file is a direct rip from WAV to 320 kbps MP3, it's all good.

Q: Will you accept collaborations?

A: Aye, collaborations are welcome. But, you have to give me a specific artist name. I won't be putting "UGername X & UGername Y" as an artist name. This goes for everyone, actually. Please decide on an artist name and include it along with the song's link when you PM me. Quite a few of us seem to use Last.FM, so it'd be nice to have real artist names instead of UGernames in our charts.

Excellent, we haz interest! =D

Let's talk basic logistics.

What website should we use for hosting/sharing purposes?

Should I set up a UG group + exclusive e-mail account or will we do everything in this thread itself?

What is this post-rock you speak of?

Oh, you.

I would love to be a part of something like this, although I don't have a lot of experience.

No worries, my good man.

This can help build some experience, maybe? =]
#13
Sounds awesome. I might contribute when i finally buy some decent enough equipment

Yes hopefully
I mean, I listen to quite a lot of Post-rock/metal sort of stuff, but I have never tried playing it. I would love to give it a go.

Sadly, I was serious.

A quick Wikipedia search reveals I know not a single post-rock band.

Explosions in the Sky is a must-listen!

Though I will not be contributing, I'll be keeping an eye on this. I look forward to the frequently quality work the UG Community produces

Also, is there any way someone could organize all the released albums into one place? There's a bunch out there, but I have no idea where.

Why don't you start playing around with any ideas you might have?

You're missing out on a lot, brah.

I'd recommend that you start out with the heavier bands, since you're a big fan of metal. Check out Maybeshewill, Isis and Pelican, for starters.

I have a demo up on my Last.FM artist page: http://www.last.fm/music/Aberrant+Corollary

The song's called "A Beginning Among Millions".

There's still a lot that I want to add to it, but you can listen to it to get a basic idea of what my song's gonna be like.

Anyone else got any demos or completed songs?

Hriday!Edit: Chuckles, you can start out with the popular post-rock bands, then. Not that it makes any difference, of course.

Good music throughout the genre.

I'm sorry, guise. I was just naming stuff off the top of my head.

Would your Beardliness and your Petruciness be interested?

I would love to help, it may be awhile before i can record, but writing never ceases for me.

FUCKING YESSS i wanted to do this for so long! lol

I'm currently finishing up an acoustic/post-rockish song. have a hard time recording tho... o yeah and my equipment sucks :P but the riffs are there.

btw: to chuckles - you might want to get into red sparrowes. I believe its the most bluesy post-rock band around. altho it doesn't sound like real blues, you might be able to pick it up.

Its a great genre, just try it, you'll love it.

I was thinking about making this thread the other day, actually

If I can get anything recorded to a high enough standard, I'll consider giving it a go; and so we have to use more than one instrument?
#25
I'm in. Taking 15 minute repetitive GY!BE like tracks? I can help judge tracks if we need, cause I know that there's just gonna be an overflowing of people contributing. :P

But I could be wrong. I'm down anyway. Just let me record and I'm in.
#26
I would do this, but I don't have a delay pedal...

Nah, I may try. Never written post-rock though. I may try something more post-metalish, but I don't know.
#27
Finally, moar interest! =D

You can use as many instruments as you want. It's your song, so it's all up to you. ^_^

You can always manipulate the effects on your computer.

Post-metal's all good as well.

I'm definitely interested. I play in a post rock/metal/sludge/whatever band, and I would be interested in contributing. I've never really looked at any of these UG album thread, so I don't really know how this works, but put me on the interested list.

I could contribute, what are the guidelines?

No guidelines, really.

If you must call it a guideline, it has to be a post-rock/post-metal song, 'tis all.

I'll add you to the list of interested UGers.

I've got something in mind for this... Add me to the list

Not to change the direction of the thread to the post rock thread in alt/indie (maybe try recruiting there if you havent already) but check out myspace.com/laveritemusic theyre an upstarting band from ohio and they are amazing.
