I've played on about 4 different worship teams. and I've seen another 20 play. most Pro worship teams use one of these amps:

Vox AC-30s
Mesa Lonestars
Mesa DC series are some what popular
JCM series amps are somewhat popular
I've also seen Plexi's everyone in a while

give me an idea of the worship bands tones you''re looking for

If you have money. and you're playing "popular" worship music I suggest Bad Cat or Dr. Z all the way.

I have been mulling over you post.

"Popular" worship music is also what I am looking for tone wise.

Cost is not an issue...

Out of these, what would you guys select for the best 1x12 combo:
(Keeping in mind, having 'the best built in reverb'.)

Bad Cat Cub II (15 Watt) with reverb $2,079.00
Not sure about that stock speaker... I don't think I can get a Blue in this model.

Mesa Boogis Lone Star Special (Power Ratings of 5, 15 or 30) $1,799.00
Not sure about that stock speaker... I don't think I can get a Blue in this model.

Cant find the DC amps on their site...
http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/product_info.htm#

Marshall JMV215C (50 Watt) Too high of wattage for me.

Dr. Z
(Thrilled to see they were located in Cleveland Ohio, as I am near Columbus Ohio)

JAZ 20/40 1x12 combo $2,199.00
Power Output: 20/40 Watts
Output Tubes: 4 6V6
Preamp Tubes: V1/V2 12AX7, V3 12AT7, V4,5,6 12AX7
Rectifier: Solid State
Controls: Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass, Master, Reverb, Speed, Depth
Effects Loop: Yes
Configurations: Head, 1x12, and 2x10 combo
Colors: Black, Blonde, Red (I like red!)

MAZ 18 Jr 1x12 combo with Alnico Blue $1,888.00
Power Output: 18 Watts
Output Tubes: 2 - EL-84
Preamp Tubes: 4 - 12AX7, 1 - 12AT7
Rectifier: 1 - GZ34
Controls: Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass, Cut, Master Volume, and Reverb
Configurations: Head, 1-12, 2-10, 2-12 Combo
Colors: Black. Other custom wood finishes are available.

I'm a christian and I want some sick tone. whats wrong with that?

Pretty much my view

well, go check out that list on the last page. has everything you'll need for hillsong tone

if you want their heavier stuff (break free, one way) I suggest you go for a Nomad a Boss DD6, a fulltone fulldrive, a Zvex SHO and a Dunlop wah.

for the "softer" stuff (From the inside out, All I need is you) just grab an AC30 a delay a fulltone fuldrive and a wah.

both those rigs are gonna run you in the mid 1k range.

for versatility the Lone star 2 good OD's a wah and a delay will cover almost anything you want.

(the DC series isn't made anymore)

a Maz 18 a good Od and a delay would be less versatile but would OWN at the softer stuff

For "popular" worship music it's going to be very very very very hard to avoid pedals. at the VERY least pro worship team guitarists have a delay, OD and probably a chorus.

but if you're looking for Guitar > Amp kind of set up a mesa Mark V might be up your alley. the lonestar isn't exactly amazing at everything by it self but it is one of the best pedal platforms ever imo.

I've Never played the bad cat you mentioned. but I'm sure it's great.

the MAZ is a great great amp for worship stuff. I'd still suggest an OD though and delay though.

of the stuff you mentioned though. for guitar > amp set ups you need to be looking into Mark V's, JVM,s and maybe lower range splawns

basically what I'm saying is. if you don't need or don't want the versaitiliy by all means go with the MAZ or Bad Cat. if you do. go with the lone star or MAZ with Pedals.

If you don't want either of those but still want to be versatile you need to be looking into some other stuff

I just realized that it doesn't have any reverb... Rats!

I guess outstanding clean, with some reverb is what I am really after.
I am still (maybe naively) unconvinced, that I need distortion for Church.

Looking like this is best for me:

Dr. Z MAZ 18 Jr 1x12 combo with Alnico Blue $1,888.00
Power Output: 18 Watts
Output Tubes: 2 - EL-84
Preamp Tubes: 4 - 12AX7, 1 - 12AT7
Rectifier: 1 - GZ34
Controls: Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass, Cut, Master Volume, and Reverb
Configuration: 1-12 Combo
Colors: Black. Other custom wood finishes are available.

It has a Master volume to keep the volume down, my Alnico Blue speaker too.

are you sure? I thought it did.

either way. I think if reverb is THAT big a deal you can get much better reverb in a pedal if you're willing to pay. and I'm also sure you can get a a reverb tank installed if you were willing to spend a couple hundred.

it says on the boogie site that it has verb

EDIT: It definitely has verb

http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/Mark_Series/mark5/mark5.html

the controls for verb are on the back

Final decision is made for me...

Dr. Z MAZ Jr. combo in red, with a single Blue, verb, and a Brakelite pre-installed.

http://drzamplifiers.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=xperts&thread=29990&page=1

Time to rest my brain on amp selection.
