That's more of a lead than a riff. But if you'd just said "any ATB riff" I would've agreed.

BTBAM IS ALWAYS RELEVANT

Fates Warning - Epitaph - 1:54

As much as I love Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, Fates Warning one-upped them in the epic traditional/doom thing with that song, and in particular, riff. Epic does not get more epic than Epitaph.
#20
Impetuous Ritual - Convoluting Into Dependent Anachronism

the riff at 2:21 is the most evil riff of all time. no exceptions!

Cynic - Uroboric Forms. The riff right before the first verse. + the clean break for the epicness. 8)

And the second riff (aka the verse riff) on Overactive Imagination. Cause it's so badass.

this too.

Also My Journey to the Stars, especially the one at 4:54. This is what really got me into Burzum.

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

0-0-0-13-0-0-0-0-13 or something like that alalalala but It;s so heavy and off time and awesome and you could not f**k anyone to it.

Sort of a dumb thread, but the intro riff to Cromlech by Darkthrone is genius. It's impossible to refrain from headbanging, air drumming, and riffing along to the song.

+1 to Bolt Thrower, although every one of their early songs has insurmountable amounts of epic in the intro riffs.

If I ever saw Atheist live, Kelly Shaffer could pee on the crowd while they played nothing but that riff from Mother Man for an hour and it would be an amazing show.

Fix'd.

Seriously, although I haven't listened to all of their albums, they seem to reliably write some of the chunkiest riffs ever committed to tape on all of them.
If I took this cigarette and put it out on you...

Atlantean Kodex - A Prophet in the Forest
8:47 into the song it starts a majestic sounding lead, continuing in different forms before disappearing entirely with just the rhythm guitar playing still, sounding extremely heavy but just as epic, before returning to the lead melody to finish the song off.

Dark Forest - Excalibur
At about 4:45 breaking out of a ripping solo and frantic sounding riffs, it all slows down to a full on epic metal moment, getting some awesome vocal lines and leads in there. Always makes the hairs stand up on my neck.

Slough Feg - Hiberno-Latin Invasion
The entire song, epic melodies sounding like Thin Lizzy gone metal.

Solstice - Cimmerian Codex
The solo section of the song at the 5 minute mark, just sounds amazing.
