I think it's bullshit that 24 downloads = $80,000 in the first place.

Actually, the 80k is PER download, so multiply 80,000 by 24.

no $80,000 PER download. So she'll have to pay nearly 2 million for 24...

I'm going to limit my downloading to Air France A320's from now on. Much cheaper.

Another reason to hate the American legal system. This is awful - you know they have targeted her because she's a mum who can't pay too, right? her kids probably can't go to college now.

People need to be sensible about this illegal downloading a more suitable punishment would either be paying for everything you've downloaded at retail price or be forced to delete it all along with say a £80 fine.

They want to make an example of her. They don't actually want that money, just to prove that if you **** with the RIAA they can ruin you. With a mafia boss kind of voice.

At retail price of say £1 per download my music collection would be worth in the area of £86,000, no way in feck can I afford that
As for deleting it all, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's got a backup of their entire music collection on an external hard drive

Aren't warnings issued before hand? If so, she should have stopped when she was warned. Either way, I'm in favour of illegal downloads and quite frankly, I don't believe it's such a crime. Although, I do believe there should be a limit that should not be exceeded. This lady has only downloaded 24 individual files/torrent or whatever, which isn't really that bad to be honest. I think the Government are being really harsh and trying to send out an example and scare off illegal downloaders. I'm pretty sure she cannot dish out over $1,0000,00. Illegal downloading barely affects industries to be honest. Only a fraction of people do it. But this is absolutely screwed up.

95% of teenagers illegally download. Teenagers can't afford stuff as it is. What's their next move?

Also in my research I've found the piracy is GOOD for the industry.

People who download statistically spend more on music each year.

People who download all their music wouldn't have bought in the first place, so it's not lost - just non-existent.

EDIT: I will admit that the figures he has are probably made up.
