so i picked up a 7string squire and i'm thinking about doing a complete custom job on it. i'm painting it, new pickups, pots, hardware, etc and i was wondering 2 things

1st-is there any way to sort of "ebonize" the fretboard. i want to give it that ebony look without sacrificing to much tone or whatever, i wasnt sure if staining would work or not

2nd-i want to redo the headstock, would just designing something and then taking a dremel tool to it work just fine?

well i'm sure if i stain it it will still look better then the cheap rosewood neck thats on it now..., and i'm only doing minor changes to the head stock and i planned on sanding the outlines of it by hand to smooth it out. i dont think i would need a router for such a task..seems a bit overkill to me.

and about the staining, will it come off of the fretmarkers and the inlay or will i need to be careful not to get any on them?
