save up or rob a bank?

no. just no. honestly, look used. some will rec the epi's which aren't all bad by any means. you just have to try a bunch.

my honest rec is this. buy a used epi that plays nice, cheap.

save for the guitar you want. if you take time and save and work for it, you will appreciate it when you get it. and it will be more than worth it.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Well, the obvious suggestion is the Epiphone Dot. If you take the time to try a few you can usually find a really nice guitar amongst the chaff. To be honest, the one thing which Epi does REALLY well is archtops.

With that in mind, if you have the time and patience, find a nice second hand Epiphone Riviera. Sexy as hell, my friend. Can't go wrong with a second hand Sheraton II either. In your case, going second hand is the way forward.

This man has got everything down perfect. Every Epi Archtop ive played on was absolutely excellent. And I really want to try the Riviera. I vote go with that. But thats me.

I will cast another vote for the Epiphone archtops (the Casino is my personal favorite)--even the Studio models are decently nice guitars.
