I gave up gym habit since I touched guitars. Well, still go jogging and, occasionally, do chin- and push-up. Now I think about returning to weights lifting but dunno if it may cause fingers and palm stiff and awkward.
What do you think about this? Do you maintain both?

If you stretch, you should be fine. I don't lift weights seriously, just do a few sets a day but I keep my fingers and arms stretched properly.

George Lynch said when he was lifting weights his hands and fingers really stiffened up so it's probably not a good idea if you're some uber shredder.

I asked this same question and the consensus I got was that it should be okay, I havent seen any problems, just don't substitute your playing time for weights and you should be fine,

It's fine. I lift 4-5 days a week and I run 7 days a week and it has no effect on my playing. The only thing that screws me is swimming a lot for cross training.

I've been back into serious weight lifting for about a year, and I've noticed no difference in my technical ability, I can still shred just fine.

Zakk Wylde lifts weights. So I doubt it'd make your fingers stiff, but in extreme cases it might lead to boring pentatonic wank.

Wasn't there a thread on this last week?

You're one to talk about making an unnecessary thread...

Making the same thread twice, and making multiple stupid/pointless threads a day are the same in my book.

There is a difference.....It's like molesting someone....and then raping someone else...They are different.

Edit:^ No I didn't check my made threads.

Dont you fools have anything better to do than complain about a duplicate thread? Honestly, if he had bumped the old thread you probably would be like "OMG who bumped the ancient thread?!"

I've heard a lot of people saying it makes your playing worse. I can't say for sure, I do feel like I can't play as fast since I started lifting but at the same time I haven't been as dilligent about my playing so it could just be that. Either way, Im not trying to be a virtuoso, as long as I'm still halfway proficient its all good
