A year or two back I bought an Ibanez RG370DX with standard pickups (inf3 inf3 inf4) - i'm using it through an Ibanez Valbee.
I recently started listening to Disturbed and I heard some really nice harmonics into some songs, so i said i want to buy EMG pickups (for start a EMG81 for bridge and then maybe a 85 for neck).
My question is not about if those are the good pickups for that sound or that my amp does not match the sound i'm looking for (i ought to buy a roland 20x anyway) - but if the emgs match my guitar - or do i have to cut it so they could match?

I'd buy a new amp before pickups.
Actually called Mark!

Why?

If recommended, what amp should I buy for high gain harmonics and drop tunnings?

EMG's would cost nearly as much as the guitar did. I wouldn't bother.

I don't think Dan uses EMGs, from what I remember haha.

And yeah buy a new amp if you want a tone upgrade.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you get actives, won't you have to replace the entire tone circuit? I think you'd have to put them all in at one. Can you use passives with an active tone circuit?
Please excuse my godawful username. I was thirteen.

Budget?
Genres (what music do you play most and are clean tones important?)
New or used?
Home or Gig?
Location?

Quick answer:
6505+112 combo $580
Vypyr 60 combo $450

Budget is irrelevant atm (i'll work my way, to buy stuff)
I play a bit of everything: from Vai, Satriani and Malmsteen to Disturbed. From Metallica, Megadeth to SRV and Hendrix.
Preferably new, but I'll settle for used too, if they are in good conditions.
Home. Somewhere in the south-center Europe, Romania.

No. Don't do this, not for your genres, anyway.

Definately upgrade your amp before pickups. An amp contributes to most of your tone, then pick ups fine tune it. I'd recommend:

Peavey 6505+/5150/JSX
JCM900
Bugera 6262/6260
Ibanez RG370DX
Schecter C-1 Classic
Valveking 112 w/ Celestion V30
Bad Monkey
Tanglewood TW28 Acoustic
