I always used to get up by myself with an alarm clock, but lately I've been needing my mom to wake up in the morning. My life sucks.

What about you guys?

Do you get up with an alarm clock or do you need extra help?

I don't really see how needing your mum to wake you up in the morning means your life sucks, but OK.

I set an alarm and it does work, but I have to set several just in case I fall asleep again after turning one off.

Since about a month ago I've been sleeping until midday every single day. Except for this past Monday and Tuesday because I had GED testing. But when I've nothing planned, I sleep. As much as possible.

In fact.. I'm feeling a bit.. drowsy... *Doses off*

If you have an alarm set for a certain time every day and go to bed at a similiar time for a longish period of time your body gets used to it and wakes up just before the alarm clock usually.
I do this, but I also set an alarm clock, then put it on snooze for 10 minutes in which im dozing and trying to wake up, and when it goes off again it's usually pretty easy to wake up.

It's revision time, so I've been getting up at 5:30 with my alarm of late.

Left to my own devices I would probably become nocturnal.

I still have a month of school left, so for now, I'm pretty much relying on mah mommah to get me up. I sleep right through the alarm otherwise. I think it's my body's way of telling me "please... please God no... please just let me sleep, I can't function" During summer, I will start waking up at 8 in the morning again with my phone's alarm, instead of 6.

This. Last summer I saw the sun for maybe 7 hours a day... I was regularly staying up till 6:30 in the morning. The nocturnaliest sleep pattern around.

I'm usually good with waking up at my alarm. that said if i don't emediately get up and make coffee i'll usually pass out within 5 minutes. but actually I've been waking up like an hour before hand recently, which pisses me off. if i didn't have school i'd probably be 100% nocturnal though and go to bed at dawn and wake up at 4pm.

My mom doesn't wake me up anymore. Mostly because I don't live with my parents anymore, but also because the last time she did (back when I still lived at home) she got a surprise...

My roommates usually wake me up.

I usually wake up just before my alarm, which is convenient, but odd.

I USED TO DO THIS TOO!! HOW CAN SCIENCE EXPLAIN THIS?

And by the way, with life sucking, I meant in comparison to when I was able to get up without any help.

Well I find I can wake up much closer to the time I want to if I set my alarm the night before. I think it helps you tell your brain that you want to get up at that time if you actually think about it beforehand.
So I can get up on time much better with an alarm, even though it rarely goes off anyway. But if I didn't have it, it would be much harder to get up. Weird.

When I've got time off, I always get up at 11, so after a week or so it just becomes habit and I don't need an alarm.

At uni, however, I make a point to not get up a minute earlier than I need to; my lectures start at different times every day, so I need my alarm to wake up on time. And I sure as hell don't trust my flatmates to get me up, so it's the alarm or nothing.

Theres been a couple cases when ive either drunkenly turned off/forgot to set my alarm or ive managed to completely sleep through it, but nope. Im at uni so i'd kinda be screwed if i still needed my mom to get me out of bed. I normally get woken up at the moment from the light in my room since my curtains dont really do much in the way of blocking out the light but ill normally snooze until my alarm goes off

I've tried two alarms and the television on one of those timer thingies in tandem, and I still need help.

I have my alarm clock set to wake me up to music on my iPod. It's awesome, minus the waking up part. I don't need help getting up, and actually prefer to be alone in the morning to avoid people annoying me with I'm already irritable.

Yes, if you set your alarm for the same time every day your body will be used to waking up at roughly that time, so it won't be unusual for you to wake up slightly before.

If my mum didn't wake me up in the morning, I wouldn't get up. The last thing I want to do at 7am is get out of my warm, cosy bed to spend 6 and a half hours in school... but once I'm actually up, I'm fine.

Same- I have a notorious habit of hitting the snooze button about 3-5 times every morning.

(I eventually do get up on my own though).

I hit the snooze 5 times on a regular basis. I have an alarm set for 6:30, just a preliminary wakeup call, then for 7:15 when I really should get up, then for 7:20 for when I really HAVE to get up. And I hit snooze in between all of them, every 9 minutes on each one, it just turns into an alarm cluster**** in the morning. But it's the only way I can wake up without being totally dead to the world.
