look for peavey amps. 6505, Classic 30, delta blues, those are among the ones you could find for you price rang I think.
My gear:
-Ibanez JS 6000 Custom w/ 11-48 gauge
-Ibanez FGM 400BB w/ 10-46 gauge
-Peavey 6505 2x12 Combo
-MXR Phase 90
-Boss DD-6 Digital Delay
-Morley Wah/Volume Pro Series II
-Boss CS-3 Compression Sustainer
-Gator G-Bus 8
-Xotic BB Preamp
Peavey VYPYR...get anywhere from the 30W to the 120W tube and you're golden

Indiana IE1-TSB Electric
Kay K-592 Acousitc
Washburn XS-2 Bass
Peavey VYPYR30 with Sanpera I footswitch
Jay Turser Acoustic Electric
Paul Reed Smith (PRS) Custom SE 24 Black Cherry

I disagree with a 6505....for versatility at least....but some other peaveys maybe. +1 to the Bugera 333
other than the suggestions already made for versatility in that price range digital modelling amps may be what you're looking for.
i.e. Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 or used Spider Valve
Line 6 Flextone, Peavey Ultra/Ultra Plus, or Bugera 333XL come to mind.

what does modelling mean?

OK, you're probably not the most amp savvy guitar player, which is pretty common.

What kind of music do you play?
Do you gig or just play at home?
What other gear do you have?
$500 budget, got that.
What is the nearest major city? Used markets vary.

thanks, answer those questions please.
