Does anyone know why 5 stars is the perfect amount to achieve? Why not 6? I would have chosen 6 because it's a perfect number..

#2

Because it's one 20th of 100%.

#3

Just cause..

#4

....How long is a piece of string?

Maybe because 5 is....you know what I'm not having this discussion...this is stupid.

100 is the perfect score.

#6

because you can show five stars with one hand.

#7

100 is the perfect score.

Your mum is the perfect score.....

Just had to get that out there.

Also...is it because we have 5 fingers on our hands?

#8

Why is 6 a perfect number?

#9

Same reason the Apollo rockets were designed based on the width of a horses arse i'd imagine...

#10

Why is 6 a perfect number?

...It has nice curves?

#11

Because we have 5 fingers

#12

Because it's easy to find multiples of 5?

#13

Why is 6 a perfect number?

Because it is half the sum of all of it's positive divisors- in this case, (1+2+3+6)/2=6

#14

It's all arbitrary. It is just because it is. When rating hotels, for example, four stars is the top, while amongst gourmet restaurants, 3 stars is the pinnacle.

That just make it a mathematical FREAK! and it should be treated as such and be shunned from society.

#16

Because we have 5 fingers, at a guess. Given the choice to redefine the maximum star rating, I'd go for 8 or 16- that way one can easily say something is half as good as something else.

I wouldn't call 6 a freak. It's bigger perfect brother, 28, is gonna kick your ass.

#18

I suppose it may be based on 5 fingers, but since out # system is base 10, I'm surprised it's not 10 stars.

#19

5/5= 100%

6/6= 100%

125576346354/125576346354= 100%

you see the point?

6/6= 100%

125576346354/125576346354= 100%

you see the point?

#20

Why this discussion??? And why Davrosss did you get back inn?

OT: why not Pi als perfect score? Almost everything defined in nature is defined by Pi... good luck trying to get a star system for Pi btw

10 stars is to much, and thus, 5 is half of that. Plus, as the other guys said, 5 fingers on one hand, easy.

EDIT: And, btw, why not 42?

the perfect number is obviously the number of the leviathan, 10^666.... **** yeah

Don't bring more Nazi numbers in here! With their dilusions about perfection.

#24

TS is a silly lad.

They really should change that, because the number of the beast is 616. 666 is Nero Caesar, using Gematria.

THIS.

#27

42 is the answer to life...it can't be the answer to how well you did in guitar hero.

#28

Its funny because someone rated this thread 4 stars...

#29

Yeah, I just realized that ^_^

#30

Because it's one 20th of 100%.

It actually isn't.

#31

Stars also have 5 points.

5 stars, 5 points.

5/5=100%

And logic has gone right down the can

I JUST realised your name is supposed to be Johnny 5, not Johnny Vee!

My point about 5 points, stands.

And if you try to argue that stars can have 6 points

and 6 stars with 6 points is also 100%

Well, you're just a dirty jew

#34

The one who made it up chose to have 5 stars probably.

#35

That would be...hmmm.

i would say its because its more conveniant, rating somethin average wud b 3 stars because its right in the middle, 6 doessnt have a middle star, and you would pick 3 because if you thought somethin was even slightly better than average ud be rating it 3/3 and people would think its amazing

#37

That does not change the fact that 5 is not 1/20 of 100%, because by definition 1%=1/100, which makes 5=500%. So 5 is actually 1/20 of 100 and not 100%. I was only talking about 5 as a number itself, yo.

I don't recall claiming that 5 was 1/20th of 100

My point:

5 stars, with 5 points each 5/5 (excluding the jews)

and 5/5 as a fraction = 100%

My point:

Then you completely missed my point.

Basically it was like:

-I quote a guy that claimed 5 was 1/20 of 100%

-I say he is wrong

-you post directly after me on the same topic but your post does not really prove mine wrong or anything which means that it was either directed at someone else or that you failed at getting my point

-I make my point again

-You say you did not claim what I proved wrong but still it looks like you responded to me in the first place

So I guess your initial post either wasn't directed to me or we have some sort of misunderstanding

#40

I am not very good with numbers, so alot of the posts in this thread are making my head hurt.
