im losing interest in playing guitar i played for two years and at first i dove in head first learning all i could getting faster and all that i even made 8 songs that to me are very excellent but im getting bored and my creativity is low its becoming more of a task to play guitar than a hobby or for fun anyone got any ideas on how to improve my situation?

one thing i find helps is to not play (as much or at all) for a few days or weeks and maybe focus on singing or keys (or whatever else you want). that always works for me.

Find a song that you like...preferably one that has a few techniques you're not familiar with...or that uses a scale you're unfamiliar with(you may have to browse genres, this helps, too), and try learning it. Draw inspiration from it, and try to come up with something of your own using that.

In other words, dick around until you come up with something you like.

Don't work on technique stuff and all the boring things for a while. Just sit down and have fun playing the guitar by playing songs and forgetting about all the other things.

You could also take a break. When I was at my 3 year mark I kinda naturally stopped playing for about 4 months but then one day I suddenly got way into it. Every day I started playing more than I ever had and I don't even know why.

listen to some new genre of music, or something other than metalcore, at least.

Try to learn something that's really insane at twice the speed.
e.g; Flight of the Bumblebee

Play with other people, or start a band.
I find that just playing with others makes you want to play more [and improves you quite a lot]

I think most of us have had that phase too. What i did was listening to a song that would be a challenge to learn. Don't remember what song i picked, think it was hangar 18, or always with me, always with you (Satriani).

Imagine that the guitar is the girl or boy you like, so whenever you play it just imagine you're fingering her/him.

It won't help in anyway but it'll make you feel lonely, sad and pathetic.

Seriously though, if you're finding it to be a task then that probably means that you're unhappy with your playing ability ot something. Just play those eight songs you know and jam with some friends, then learn some new songs

Play with new, unfamiliar techniques.
Play with new effects, assuming you play electric.
It's normal to take a break from guitar tho, and let your creativity & such build up.

Look at it as if doing homework in a subject. You'll hate it occassionaly, but as long as you persist and get shit done the reward will come eventually.

I've "been on a break" for nearly 2 years now. It sucks to figure out how much you've missed up (music-, playing-, technique- and theory-wise) that I can't bother to start playing again. lol

if you don't want to play your guitar, don't play it.
