Any other fans of thinking man's Hip hop on UG? It's pretty much the only rap-related genre I can REALLY dig, even though I do like most the of commonly agreed as "essential" rap and Hip hop albums.

Best examples of Abstract Hip hop:

Atmosphere

Brother Ali

you know there's a good rap thread stickied above this one, right?

This thread isn't asking about or requesting "good rap". It's about a specific genre. Go away.

Edit:
For future reference, rap isn't a style of music. Rap is what you do over a beat in music like hip hop.

that thread isn't about that either anymore, it's a discussion thread. every single artist you listed has been talked about in there. and really dude? "Go away"? wise up and stop being a dick

Yeah go there man. I don't really see Atmosphere or Brother Ali as "abstract" or "progressive", though they're both amazing.

Sage Francis would fit this category more.

'good rap?' is the thread for all hip hop discussion. It ceased being about 'good rap' long ago. It covers everything that you would label 'abstract' and much more.

Also don't be a jerk to that guy, he was just trying to help you out man.

+1.. that was just cold.

However, I don't see the harm in having a couple of extra hip hop threads once in a while... What's the problem with that?

Sorry, man.
Yea, I kinda realized I sounded dumb there, but I didn't really take the stickied thread like you guys just explained at first glance, and I didn't want to sift through the pages. It was just a quick reaction.

So, yea, go ahead and let this die.

Pretty much everyone signed to Rhymesayers is the shit.

MF DOOM, Felt, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, it's all good.
Slug and Ant are in a couple other of their groups besides Atmosphere.

Just step yourself outside, and look up at the stars above.
