ok so ive had the valveking for a while now and i love the cleans how they are..but how do i get the lead channel closest to sounding like a 6505 kind of feel...ive already done some mods like got a high quality cab...got a tube screamer to tighten the bottom end...looking forward to trying the dummy jack mod..and probably change the tubes...but what kind of tubes do i need and what r some other mods anyone else knows

With the money you spent on upgrades, you could easily have bought a real 5150 (obviously adding the money the vaveking costed)
#3
Is it a cab/head, or combo?
Because I know that changing the speaker on the combo helps a lot.
They provide the shittiest stock speaker possible to sell it cheap.

I'll search for the link to website full of speakers for ya.

Maybe use the clean setting on the amp and get a real nice distortion pedal?

1. Change the tubes (I recommend a Tung-Sol 12AX7 in V1, a Mullard 12AX7 in V2 and a Sovtek 12AX7LPS in V3, as well as JJ 6L6GCs in all power tubes)
2. Change the speakers/make sure you have a high quality cab (you've already done this)
3. Change the output transformer (I recommend Weber and Heyboer)
4. Install a bias pot (not entirely necessary)
5. Mod the circuit (check the VK wiki, check the Mesa mod)
6. Run an EQ in the effects loop.

For #3, 4 and 5 you should take the amp to a tech to have them done.

It's up to you whether you wanna do all of these things, but you at least need good speakers and an EQ in the effects loop, IMO.

Check this guy's clips of the Mesa mod, decide if you like 'em - keep in mind he's running an EQ in the effects loop as well, but hasn't done the bias mod nor the OT swap:

you should try using an od through the fx loop. theres a lot of videos of a guy on youtube doing a ton of covers who uses a valveking with an od. it sounds pretty nice actually.

An OD sounds weird in the FX loop. It works best in front.

If I were you, I would sell the valveking head, by a 6505+ 112 combo, cut it in half, and you have a 6505+ head at half the price and half the watts the actual head.
