Hey UG,

Looking for a distorion pedal that emulates the sound of a Marshall JCM 800 for a NWOBHM, Overdriven Judas Priest style distortion along the lines of "Nightcrawler" or "Judas Rising". Budget around $150, willing to stretch a little. Thanks for any help you can give.

man, the only thing i can think of is the OCD overdrive pedal, truly the only way to get a JCM800 tone is to well....get a jcm?
but nah, i say some gain, boost some mids, and an overdrive pedal will get you pretty close

Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.

+1 to the Pinnacle. Also look at the Catalinbread DLS.

Atleast to my ears the Brit high gain is OK with the right EQ. But a little too thin and weak sounding.

^ That's what an 800 sans power tube distortion sounds like.

Did you dime both the Master and the Channel volumes?

^^ Are you insinuating the DLS doesn't get close to the JCM 800 sound?

Obviously it's not a JCM 800 exactly but it does very well at getting the feel and conjuring the idea of a JCM 800.

Furthermore, the OP didn't ask for a JCM 800, he asked for a pedal that sounds like one.

If you think you can get everything in that schematic for $150 along with a suitable chassis and power supply, you know nothing about part costs.
