"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this week that thanks to the new health-care reform law, musicians and other creative types could quit their jobs and focus on developing their talents because taxpayers would fund their health care coverage.

“We see it as an entrepreneurial bill,” Pelosi said, “a bill that says to someone, if you want to be creative and be a musician or whatever, you can leave your work, focus on your talent, your skill, your passion, your aspirations because you will have health care..."

What are your thoughts on this pit?

What? We'd still need a job to pay for things other than healthcare. Not every musician gets regular, well paying gigs.

This both pisses me off and makes me a little happy.

I, the taxpayer, am going to fund the healthcare for (basically) people like me?

Ehh, not sure about it.

Ah, Nanci Pelosi.

She's like the Sarah Palin of liberals, only not hot.

democratic party... liberal?

Well... Shit. This totally misrepresents what healthcare reform is about and will certainly come back to haunt the Democratic Party later.... God dammit, Pelosi. I like her, but it was NOT smart to say that.

Now, note that I never disagreed with the idea.
He's a freak of nature, but we love him so.

Sarah Palin is fugly. Her daughter, or Tina Fey dressed up as Palin, however...

And I think Pelosi is clearly an idiot.

It was just such a poor thing to say... "hey guys, forget about responsibility....let the rest of the world carry you on their backs..."

"But we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy."

Well, this is part of the Socialistic policy this current administration is set on forcing down our throats. It's Socialism at its best... well, I should say its worst.

So they can follow their passion. Imagine if everyone quit their jobs to follow their passion. Who would pay for them to live while they're busy following their passion? The world just doesn't work that way, I'm sad to say. Unless you're apathetic about living a comfortable life, in which case, you can follow your passion and not care that you have no solid place to stay and occasionally go hungry.

1. The vast majority of working musicians DON'T have health insurance because they are self-employed.
2. This has been done before during the early 20th century and the country didn't become SOCIALISTzz omgOMGOGOMGO

It makes no sense. England has free(ish) health care, and I'm still going to study more academic subjects as well as music at 6th form. I doubt it very much that I will study music at university.

It's like saying the only thing that was stopping musicians from becoming professional musicians was that they were scared of hurting themselves a bit and not being able to afford the medical bills.

Music is my passion, but it is a passion which is fucking hard to turn into a profitable business. Music is the dream job, but I understand it is not something I can do by simply studying it and trying my hardest to get into it (not that I won't do these things). Even some of it just comes down to luck.
