I have an Epiphone SG400, and i wanted to know if it would go into drop D half step down, without screwing up my neck? It came set up in standard, but i play mostly metal, so would it handle low tunings (C, G, C, F, A, D) or just half step down from standard without problems?
Thanks

You can pretty much tune it however you like, you wont screw anything up. But it will start sounding real crap and sloppy after you start getting into like Drop B territory.
Most of my grindcore inspiration comes from my hard drive.

1/2 Step down is pretty common across the board. Done mainly to accomodate singers and still be able play standard chords.
When heavily detuning though short scale guitars will feel looser than longer scale guitars in many cases. This is because, all things being equal, string tension is generally greater the longer the scale.
Moving on.....
