I've got this French Bulldog that is one year old and he has already been attacked twice.

He's very, very gentle, (think of a pug) and he has never growled or barked at another dog. He can't even open his mouth wide enough to bite, let alone he's got really small teeth.

Both attacks were also done by other dogs who bit him without giving a warning.

Why the hell is that?

He isn't neutered, which is something that I'm thinking of doing, but I'm wondering whether that is the problem at all of not. Again, he doesn't do anything dangerous, and within seconds after meeting another dog, they start growling at him, or even worse, they actually bite him.

Two weeks ago he got bitten in the ear by a Jack Russel and he needed to get 8 stitches.

Anyone experienced a problem like this?

That's weird, my dog never growls or barks at other dogs either, but the result is pretty much the opposite, he's liked by pretty much any dog he meets.
#10
he doesn't fight back cos its a FRENCH bulldog ?
ive heard dogs are too fond of the french also...
#12
seriously, I'd attack your dog too if I'd see it.

Man I hate dogs.

I'm not sure. It's weird. Normally the Dog i look after (A black lab) dosen't go near another dog. Sometimes she will chase other Dogs though, quite agressively too, but she's never bitten another Dog.
#14
Something in his scent perhaps?

I haven't ever experienced this. My dog is about 110 lbs which is pretty large even for a German Shepard. Most other dogs are afraid of him even though he tries to be friends with them (and every other animal he comes across - birds, cats, rabbits, etc...). It's actually very strange how gentle he is for a breed that is typically used as a guard/police dog. I have actually seen birds perch on his back.

Neutering could help, but I doubt it unless the other dogs are also neutered.

In other news, if your dog is attacked because of someone else's negligence (not having dog on leash etc. assuming your county/state has laws for it), they can be sued.
#19
You need to get him socialised with good, non-aggressive dogs that he can be friends with so he doesn't develop a fear and end up being aggressive himself. Take him to some dog training classes.

Dogs, although are domestically bred, are actually still very wolf like. They still have a pack mentality, and in wolf packs, wolves are more likely to pick on weaker wolves from occasion. They learn not to when whoever they pick on fights back. It usually works out well for packs, it's something they learn when they're pups with their siblings.

In the modern world of domestic dogs, they're taken out of that environment and it's rather confusing. The pack mentality is within the family home they're raised in. When dogs meet other dogs in public, it's quite odd.

This is not a definitive answer, but I hope it helps out.

True. That is a given, but the one before that was a German Shepard.

Well, first of all, the dog is mainly my mom's :P

But seriously, he doesn't act like a pussy. He doesn't wimper, back down or anything. He just stands strong and confident, with his ears erect, and the dogs go and bite him, but he doesn't bite back.

He doesn't KNOW how to bite back.
