Hello fellow pitmonkeys, pit'goers, pit ...posters, pit...'ers.

I am here to ask thou some stuff that you think might interest me. You see, I am, like the thread title suggests it, a picky a-hole when it comes to music. I've been trying for months, if not years, to get along with music most people like, underground or mainstream, but it just doesn't work and believe me, I tried hard.

Now before you call me names, do not be afraid as I am not an elitist and before starting discussions about theoretical subjectivity in taste and music, I understand perfectly that everyone's taste is different and all that talk-a-tralala.

Though if you want some information on my tastes, I like a lot instrumental stuff and probably couldn't stand a song without any instrumental effort from the musicians, including voice (I like Scatman John stuff, just to say). I'm more into rock/hard rock, some metal (no heavy hardcore screamin' stuff though), and techno stuff too.

Actually, I don't give a shit about the genre. My opinion on a song is based on the song itself, not how it was written or how it was meant to sound like according to a certain name group of songs having some similar characteristics.

TL;DR I'm a picky a-hole, try to post some songs that I might like

Also, I apologize to you guys for another "suggest me stuff" thread, really. I'm even expecting some flaming for this or something, but if a mod asks me to remove this thread or something, I will without imposing any resistance.

Note: By "instrumental effort", I don't necessary mean shredding

Explosions in the Sky. Especially their album called, "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place".

You will thank me.

I like some stuff from them, but some stuff from them bores me too . Though I never really checked stuff by sorting them by albums, so I'll check out that one specifically soon

Pierce the Veil. (Currents Convulsive, Yeah Boy and Doll Face, The Cheap Bouquet, Drella, She Sings in the Morning)

They solo like mad and don't even glorify it. The drummer's top notch and their songs are catchy as hell.

Kitty's Back by Bruce Springsteen (forget what you know about Springsteen before watching this):
Part 1
Part 2

Amazing live atmosphere and chemistry from the band, vocal lines are fantastic, instrumental breaks are beautifully crafted (though the guitar is nothing technically difficult, its still works well). Best of all, they play off each other so well.

This is what immediately pops into my head when you say you enjoy good instrumental work.

Look in my sig... Yeah..playing that card.

Oh yeah, and "Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean" by Explosions in the Sky is ace so check that out

Hmmm...
First thing that came to mind is a band called Jonin.

Well, his stuff is catchy. When you hear Scatman john, most people think of that song entitled "Scatman", but I hate that one , his other stuff is better I think.

Like I said, it's not about genre, just about the song itself

If a little screaming here and there is OK with you. The singer has an incredible singing voice and uses it more than anything.

Well, I never had a good opinion of them, some friend introduced me some songs from them that I really didn't like, but that one sure has some epic bits.

Although it makes me rage when there's these "hardcore meltdowns" with screams and stuff. But the melodic parts are pretty awesome.

Btw guys, I'll try to give my opinion on most things you post. Might take a while though, lots of stuff to listen to. But I'll start from the beginning.

Thank you.

lol np

Such a great song. It just makes me move.

George Benson is fantastic as well, but that is jazz and doesn't fit into what TS wanted as a result of being jazz.

I think not

I mean, like I said on my first post, I really like instrumental stuff. And I basically own almost every Joe Satch's album

If you really like instrumentals, check out the Breezin' album by George Benson. Most of them are instrumentals.

Not bad, but I hate the singer . But their playing sounds good.

I know Scale the summit stuff. That song and other songs are good. But... Once you've listenned to one of their songs, you basically know the drill.

I mean, their licks are incredibly repetitive. When I first started to listen to them, I've had sparkles in the eyes and stuff but oh god, it fell from high.

Liquid Tension Experiment - Acid Rain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edqH0ofRQrM

For some reasons, I can't stand Petrucci's playing. Though I do enjoy Wishful thinking (except near the end, it freaking makes me rush to the next button on my mp3 player). I really don't know why, I feel like he needs more dynamics practicing, a better and less boring tone basically.

From Paul gilbert, joe satch, buckethead, andy timmons, steve vai, kiko loureiro, marty friedman, Guthrie Govan and etc, Petrucci is out of the list for me

That sounds pretty cool. Love the guitar in it, the vocals sounds too banal for me though. But eh, that's a detail.

Indeed it is. Though this kind of instrumental doesn't exactly fit me (love instrumental rock mostly, or techno), but still, good stuff.

And btw, thanks people, I really appreciate it!
