Hey
Basically, after i get my new amp i'm going to save for a decent pedal (considering i have the Boss DS-2 now).
I've heard both of these are pretty good and my favourite guitarist uses them both. This is Synyster Gates and you probably know he plays in the band Avenged Sevenfold. I was wondering has anyone tried out these pedals and if they would sound good with Avenged Sevenfold or i'd need to go to maajoorrr lengths to get the sound that he gets ie. getting a Mesa Boogie amp or something.

This is the amp i am considering: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/White-Horse-GT260-120W-DSP-Guitar-Amp/8J3
I've never played on one, but i've seen a review and demonstration on youtube and i think it sounds okay... just will need a sound supressor.

But yeah, if you could tell me a little about this choice that would be great.

Forget about the amp, the idea of a 120W half stack worth 200 pounds made me laugh so hard. If you want an amp which does heavy stuff pretty well then get the Peavey Bandit, it's loud and got plenty of gain, probably the best cheap amp to play in your garage.

The two pedals you've mentioned are totally different - one is an overdrive used to push the tube amp harder, the other one is a distortion pedal so it doesn't have to push anything - it has a lot of gain on its own. In my opinion - get a good amp first, and buy an EQ/OD to tailor the tone, tighten it up etc.

Haha :L
Okay, thanks for the feedback. I did think a 200 pound 120watt amp sounded a bit odd. But yeah, i have a Marshall MG50DFX now and i KNOW you can't downgrade from that worthless piece of shit.

Surprisingly, there are many worse amps than MGs. That amp is most likely one of them, although I've never tried it specifically. Instead of getting a $230 amp and a $100 or more overdrive, I'd spend about $350 on an amp. But if you can spend more, you definitely should try to do so.

How much are you willing to spend, total, on new gear?
Can you go used?
If you can go used, are you in the USA? Where is your nearest major city?
Will you be gigging with this gear?

Using the same pedal will not make you sound like your favorite guitarist.

Forget either of those pedals and that amp and focus on getting a decent amp suited for the tone you're after.

Why don't you get this...

If you don't like 2nd hand...

Both will likely give you a tone closer to Gates than that White Horse amp... which sounds suspiciously dodgy.

The Vypyr will have enough amp models and stompboxes for you to tweak to your heart's content.

However, note that it really is just a lateral upgrade. You should start looking at saving more money and aiming for a tube amp... something like a Blackstar Studio 20

it's so cool to hate Gibson, even the federal Department of Justice hates them.

1) Pedals won't help you much through that amp.

2) Both those pedals are kind of bad. You can do better.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Feel free to express yours so I can make an informed judgement about how stupid you are.
