Just a little bit of help needed guys if i could take some of your time

I'm not sure whether this is a bad habit or not but when i'm playing power chords i tend to mute all strings that arent being played with my 1st finger, i see no problem in this however when there are power chords that are being strummed and contain a mute in the middle such as the following how would i play it correctly?

Do i need to practice only hitting the strings required or should i continue with muting everything? When muting everything in the strums it sounds rather muddy which isn't what i'm wanting.

The second thing i want to ask about is when muting groups of strings or single strings such as the following:

and

Again for the first part would i only hit the strings that are shown to be muted? would i need to hit them with a bit of force to make them pronounced or does it really not matter in the end?

Thanks in advance

For the first question, all you have to do is play normally the powerchord but mute the 5th note by slightly touching the middle string with your index. Try it a couple of times and you'll get it.

Second question: just press a little those strings until you hear a "muffled" sound. Something like a scratch sound.
