I couldn't find a thread on this sick band so I made one myself. They're really good tech/prog deathcore. Check em out at myspace.com/wearestructures. I wouldn't be surprised if they got signed this year.

That's what makes them awesome. They go from one riff to another completely different one immediately and it works!

pretty sure the "transitions" are awful. It sounds too start-and-stop ish for me to really get into it.

Hate to double post, but am I the only one who sees the irony in the fact that they have a song called "transitions"?

I'd like to see them get signed to Sumerian soon. I think it could happen. I just don't wanna see them become another sumeriancore band.

Or, if you look at their logo, it's "Struc/tures." Maybe meaning that they never stick to a cookie cutter type of structure with their songs. I could be wrong tho. Their style is like nothing I've ever heard before. It's a cluster**** of awesomeness!

Their style is "boy do I wish we were Veil of Maya"

or, alternatively,

Technical sounding riff
Open note chugs
chugs with two notes one semitone apart
melodic part
return to semitone chugs
posssible singing

lather, rinse, repeat.

I don't see how they're anything like VoM except for their technicality.

VoM doesn't sing at all, they don't do any sweeps and they aren't anywhere near as melodic as Structures can be at times.

I almost forgot, VoM doesn't use 7 strings.

VoM sweeps. they tune just as low as a 7 string.

All of structures songs sound the same.

VoM tuning: B F# B E G# C#

Structures tuning: G A# F A# D# G C

You lose.

Now tell me, which song has VoM sweeped in? I also don't see how all Structures songs sound the same. You might, but I certainly hear tons of variation.

all eyes look ahead definitely has a few

Definitely in that little solo, but I have never heard them use sweeps outside of that.

Why do people compare them to VoM anyway? I don't think they had that intention of sounding like them. If anything, they wanted to sound like Periphery with a bit of FTFD and Mis Sigs influence.

Mowgli and Not Safe to swim today off the top of my head. And I really don't see the need to tune that low.

Usually, I would agree with you. But in some cases (Meshuggah, After the Burial, Periphery, Structures) it works.

I don't see the similarity.

Veil of Maya are an underproduced clusterfuck of generic ideas that have been worshipped from here to the Moon.

Structures actually write interesting music and know how to EQ a cd properly.

I find them incredibly similar, mostly in terms of song structure (lololol) and the style of riffs and breakdowns they use. I also think this band is better and will also get better.

EDIT: Vocals too. And by god does VOM suck at EQing.

EQing what? their amps? blame that shit on keene, or the mastering guy but i honestly wouldn't be surprised if sumerian releases never went to an outside mastering company

If you were in the studio and heard that production, would you go "Yeah, no, that's fine"?
No. You slap him in the face and say "Hey, you're being paid a few thousand dollars to do a job that an 18 year old can do in their bedroom, you sit the fuck down and you make it listenable."

Yeah. It's almost as if Michael Keene got worse at producing. I mean, he wasn't great at it for CMC but for [Id] the guitars and drums sound so bad. Still doesn't mean that VoM is bad though. I enjoy most of their stuff. Also, they could've been completely stoned when they were in the studio and just didn't give a fvck.

I'm not sure, but they might be the only band the uses 7 strings the way that they do (tuning wise).
I'm looking forawrd to a full length from these guys, I have a feeling they will improve a lot.

Everything about the way they use 7 strings is different. I have never heard of another band using that tuning. And they do so many cool effects, for example, those weird harmonics at the beginning of "Still Waters". From what I can tell by their studio update, one guitarist picks the strings behind his left fretting hand.

Even more reason for me to hate the band. Music first, then blazedness .

I agree with you on that. Personally, I'm straight edge and think that smoking is pointless and stupid.

Structures is easily the best band i've ever heard.

I've liked bands before, but nothing like this, I cannot stop listening to their EP.

I couldn't be more stoked to see them in August.

Peavey 6505+
Marshall 1960B

I'm a stoner, and I still think that music should always come first. I've written my best music while baked, but when recording... man, time is money.
