Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions of songs with depressing bass riffs. I did a search here, and found a depressing bass solo thread, but, after listening to some of the songs suggested there, it wasn't quite what I was looking for.
The one song that comes to my mind is the intro riff to My Friend Of Misery by Metallica. That's basically the kind of emotion I want to have invoked by the riff.

When I read the title I was going to propose "My Friend of Misery", but it seems that's the source of your interest.

Parkway Drive's "Flesh, Bone & Weakness" has a pretty melancholic bass intro too, though I'm doubting whether it's a bass guitar or an electric one playing it.

I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

Check out The Cure's 'Bloodflowers' and 'The Cure' albums - more recent stuff - and hear how bass can drive the depressing element in a song, when the guitar/keyboard parts are quite complex.
Other than that, I love playing Placebo's 'The Crawl' on bass. I'm sure it's guitar being used on the album, but it sounds brilliant the bass way.

Spiders - System Of A Down

I'm not sure if its played on Daron's detuned Iceman guitar or Shavo's bass, but I have played it on bass and I can assure you it sounds great. I was also looking for something like My Friend of Misery and I managed to write a little something similar to it
