So, this is one of the first songs I wrote and the first for my viking/folk metal band. It's about soldiers who died in battle and I already have the music for it written. I've intentionally made the first verse longer than the second because it felt to me that 3 short verses or 2 long verses would make the song boring after a while. Please leave a comment and C4C.

[spoken part]

when an ordinary man dies
his wife and children grieve

when a king dies
his land may fall in ruins

when a hero dies
history is written
his name is remembered
and his victories are commemorated

it is told for many years
in legends and songs
freedom and glory is what he died for

[chorus]

they are the ones who gave their lives
so that we could live in peace
brave warriors on the battlefield
for freedom and glory they have died

[break]

valhalla, open your gates for them
the ones, who never surrendered
on a cold wintersmorning, they faced their foes
fearless, they marched into battle

[verse 1]

't was many years ago
but I remember well
enemies from the south
or were they from hell

they hunted our men
raped our women
all acts of war
which couldn't be forgiven

we sent our best warriors
to meet them in battle
to pay for their deeds
only speak through their metal

the southerlings were strong
and so was their spirit
they attacked with great prowess
but never would we give in

[verse 2]

they ambushed our men
deep in the forest
what cowards they were
when our men were the fiercest

the battle raged on
many soldiers were killed
but our men stood undaunted
brave blood had been spilled

I liked it actually, even though I'm not all that into viking metal hahaha
It doesn't weigh itself down with daunting themes, it's honest and straight to the point.

I liked the bluntness of the peice. It was really simple but told a definite story that seemed to have been passed down for generations, but it was still refreshing.

Good work, and Ill have to check out some of this "Viking Metal" stuff, seems good!
Too lazy to come up with a clever or relevant sig.
