I think open tunings have to be chord, and that has only two notes.

Are the two middle strings an octave up from each other?

and then there's free jazz, which isn't even for musicians.

As my old guitar teacher once said: Metal really comes from classical music. The only difference is pinch harmonics, double bass, and lyrics about killing goats.

That's gonna kill your neck, tho. I'd just suggest using DADGAD (Dsus4), or D major or minor

I usually play "Open Your Eyes" by Alter Bridge, and the middle strings are in the same octave. I really like this tuning, the chords sound "bigger".
Hey there I got a sig!

I know what i'd do if i was in that tuning. I'd tune the a's down to G# to get some good dissonance, turn the gain on the amp to 11, and make my neighbors freak out! Tritones are AWESOME for open tunings! Learned that from NIN. Hurt's got some tritones. No wonder religious people don't like nine inch nails! Well, that and Closer.
