In light of new research on the subject:

In a bad mood? Don't worry - according to research, it's good for you.

An Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly.

In contrast to those annoying happy types, miserable people are better at decision-making and less gullible, his experiments showed.

While cheerfulness fosters creativity, gloominess breeds attentiveness and careful thinking, Professor Joe Forgas told Australian Science Magazine.

So, would you rather be grumpy or happy? Might be an obvious choice for some, but since this is the pit... what will it be?

Also, for those of you who are either, do you feel the research is accurate?

Isn't that because perpetually happy people are wilfully ignorant?

And the test's daft, but I doubt anyone particularly cares about the result, so good on him.

I actually think that makes perfect sense. I always make noticably better decisions etc. and I notice that I think things through alot more. That said though, I'd rather be happy obviously, because well, I'd be happy.

I get grumpy quite easily, usually about women. I tend to over-analyse things when I get in a bad mood aswell, which is why I fly through my job. because work pisses me off to no extent.

But I don't like it when I am, so I try to kick myself out of it and think of the postives and make a cup of tea. Hasnt let me down yet =)

I make better decisions when I'm grumpy but I enjoy my decisions a lot more when I'm happy.

I pick happy. Better to enjoy a bad decision than to feel bad about a good decision.

None of which will work.

Does the above post enrage, offend or confuse you?

Good.

I've been grumpy most of my 16 years of life, why stop now? Happiness is just a luxury of life, like weed.

Eh, I tend to flick between the two.

When I'm grumpy, I'd rather be grumpy.
When I'm happy, I'd rather stay happy.

Being grumpy is a constant with me. The sad part is that I notice it's the very thing that causes me to do great stuff, and the grumpier and angrier I get, the more amazing things I do.

When I'm in a good mood, I usually feel a tinge of guilt afterward though, usually because I almost always do something stupid, yet, kind of like ****ing a random woman you don't know very well, it's the feeling you get that drives you to want it rather than the logic behind it.

I've noticed the happy people around me tend to get on my nerves the most, usually because I know they are about to have an epic fail very soon, but refuse to think it through or acknowledge it, and want me to join them in their own self sabotage.

I have always been a cynical grumpy sort of person. My friends refer to me as an old man. A lot of life annoys me, especially people

However, recently I have tried to become more optimistic and enjoy myself more. I think, for me, it is a great effort to actually be happy, but it is definitely a better way of thinking

I try and appreciate little things, and acknowledge when I am content. Example: sitting in a beer garden, with a nice pint, and good conversation, I just think to myself, "yeah, this is pretty good actually"

I came back from uni the other day for the summer, and noticed how bloody cynical, grumpy, moany my old man is. I think this has definitely affected me. He now refers to me as some "wishy-washy, green liberal pansy"

EDIT: he says that in jest though. We share the same sort of humour
