We've got the pic thread, threads about clothes, the post pics of your desk thread, even a thread dedicated to computer help. This one is a mixture of those. What kind of computer do you use? Brand/model, monitor size, upgrade wishes, stories of awesome computers you've had. Post them here.

I'm on a gateway MT6452 laptop atm, it's good but it's old and falling apart, I'm getting a Dell Inspiron 530s desktop this weekend.

Main computer is a 15" MacBook Pro late 2009, 2.53GHz C2D, 4GB DDR3, 9600GTM running Leopard. Don't want/need anything in the near future with this.

I also have a custom built desktop with an Antec 900 case, 2.13GHz C2D, 4GB DDR2, 8800GTS running Ubuntu 7 and Windows 7. I'll periodically update the CPU and GPU.

...modes and scales are still useless.

I thought most OS's only recognized up to 4GB of RAM?

x86 OS's can recognize up to 4GB. x64 can recognize a lot more, up to 32GB.

32bit OSs can index up to about 3.5 or just over, 64 bit OS have a limit that is enormous and unlikely to be reached any time soon. I think it's measured in exabytes or something.

Edit: Apparently AMD's 64bit architecture has an artificial limit of 4 Petabytes which is 4 X 2 ^ 50 bytes rather than the 2 ^ 30 bytes in a gigabyte

Windows 7 ultimate can do 192 GB. Not sure who uses that, though.

D'oh. Second one was meant to be 4GB, mistype.

It depends on what OS version it is. The 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium recognises up to 16GB I think.

EDIT: Well, balls. Beaten to it by about 4 other people.
