I see a lot of political discussion here, so I was wondering how many people actively participate in this sort of thing.
#2
Never, actually.

Well then you're an idiot, you might not like their message or beliefs but they have a right to make them known and you have no right to stop them.

Freedom of speech also includes the right to protest.

But the people that protest against the EDL and other similar groups don't believe in the right to free speech, they want to stifle and repress the EDL's views. Not very democratic at all I reckon, may even be a little bit Fascist.

No-one is actively stopping the EDL from marching, sharing their opinion or even existing.

Alln that's happening is that two sides are sharing views. Nothing more.

Yeah the UAF are turning up to every march or demonstration and causing trouble, could you imagine the reaction to a group of EDL people turning up to a UAF march. Oh hang on, I forgot the UAF are only a reactionary group disrupting legitimate protests. Thjey have no real purpose except to attack and smear pople they dislike, which is Fascism!

If the UAF are doing that, that is not reflective of any other group, including my group, the Socialist Students.

True, I thought you were on about the UAF, and I hate them with a passion.

Do you know where that rhetoric comes from? The EDL have received large funding from BNP members who work in The City of London. The BNP are just fascists in cheap suits. A lot of the members of the EDL are also sympathisers of the BNP, regardless of what those who can contact or publish to a wider audience on the internet will say (not to mention that there are many racists in the EDL who keep their racism when the cameras are away).

EDIT: Ah, sorry man, I had a bit of a mix up. However, I shall keep that there for others to read - the point is important nevertheless

So they're both fascist groups!

No there isn't. One has fascist links, one is a counter protest. The right to protest includes the right to counter protest. It's also incredibly important that we have UAF because the physical existence of a counter protest group like that has been shown to reduce violence and aggression from the EDL.

I don't think so, not off the top of my head. Unless Protest(ing) the Hero with metaldud536 counts. :P

I went to Glasgow in 2003 to join the Iraq War protest, somehow given permission to jink school for the occasion. We marched from George Square to some big open place where rallies were being held. It was pretty amazing to climb a tree and see ~1 million people gathered in one place.

I can't say my decision to protest was particularly well informed, but I would probably do the same today.

Jesus, no one's allowed to have a bit of fun here.

And Protesting the Hero, apart from being a kick ass band, is a legitimate protest, when you think of it.

its basically going against what people normally find Good. or protesting against someone who others to find a hero, happens all the time in politics.

As for my protests, I've protested to have me school receive federal funding funding since a bill was passed in my town to limit school funding my 80%, we lost and the school is closing down due to not having enough accreditation.
