Hi everyone, i came up with the idea that since i had a TT combo with the V30, and a 2x12 cab with a Governor and a Wizard, i could probably switch from driving the V30 to the 2x12 mid-song.

i saw a bunch of people on youtube (namely the self proclaimed "Tone King" and the guys from Mercury Magnetics) using this:

but it's quite pricy.

My question is: Is that the only product of its kind available on the market? Are there any cheaper alternatives? Is it possible to build one myself?

I'm pretty sure you are looking for the Cabbone, not the Headbone, since it only switches between heads not cabinets.

You have to make sure that whatever you use ends up taking the amps output load so your amp doesn't blow up. This means you can't use a basic AB switch

And as far as I know, the Tonebone products are probably the only way to go for this kind of stuff, though I'm pretty sure there have to be other options, I just can't think of any

They're awsome, here in the UK you can get them for £23, very cheap.
I'm not sure what price for things like that are like in Singapore.

yes i'm aware that because of the nature of the OT, there must be a constant load held on it to prevent it from blowing. The Cabone (whatever you call it) holds a constant load on the amp head.

But i've just read a bunch of reviews on both the ToneBone and CabBone and they both seem to suffer from a range of reliability issues. Casts some doubt about whether my aspiration to switch between speaker cabs is even... feasible at this time at all....

I'm not so sure that the EHX switch blade is going to help? it seems to take on the concept of a typical instrument A/B switcher.

The EHX Switchblade would allow you to switch speaker cabinets mid-song.
Why you want to do that, I don't know.

To experiment! i plugged the TT into my 2x12 before, and it sounded huge. Immensely different from the stock V30 in the combo.

i figured the cab could be used if i want to break into a solo mid-song. i want to see how this experiment works out.

While the switchblade could technically do what you want it to do I wouldn't. The circuit and build quality is not really robust enough to handle a speaker out signal.
