ok so i am trying to hook up a pa in my garage practice space so my vocalist can sing..i have this speaker with no wire coming out..just on the back there is a white and red input wire and a 1/4 inch instrument looking jack...so i know i can plug my mic into the 1/4 inch jack but how do i power the damn thing?

ps: i know this might be the wrong thread but this was the closest one for the topic

Is this a powered speaker or a simple passive speaker? It sounds like you are talking about a normal passive speaker box, in which case you don't plug a mic into it, you plug some form of amp (like a PA) into it and the mic into the amp/mixer.

If you get a powered mixer (ie. one with a power amp built it) then yes, otherwise you have to buy a mixer and an amp.

That would also require the purchase of a power amp, it's just a mixer.

You can pick up some pretty cheap powered mixers but you might have to settle for something like a Korean one. They have a tendency to develop piddling little faults like level meters fritzing out and such but they do tend to work ok.
